Well I've always liked to keep a garden but I've never been able to have more than a tiny one, or a container garden. I love the thought of having a really big garden in my back yard though, and now we're in a place where we could do that!
I'm not super big on flower gardens...though I would like to landscape my yards nicely with no or low-maintenance trees, bushes and perennials suitable to the region...but I love veggie gardens, and fruit trees and bushes.
This next spring I'd like to plant:
tomatoes
pumpkins
peppers
peas
spinach
We'll see how I do with that and then move on to other things hehe

Squash you just cant go wrong with them, either you get enough to feed the whole town or you just get a few.
When the kids were little I grew every vegetable we ate, at times I miss it, and then when I think about all the weeding etc I dont miss it one bit
I grow tomatoes, peppers, peas, lettuce, spinach, chives, parsley, Cilantro, lemon grass, rosemary, basil, and mint.

The only herb that gave me fits this year was my basil. It was so finicky as to water/light/shade requirements.

In my garden? Nada. My wife is the gardener. In addition to a cherry and apple tree, she grows zucchini, tomatoes, a few stalks of corn, tomatoes & cherry tomatoes (BLT's last night for dinner...YUM!!), carrots, raspberries and now she thinks some blueberries have popped up.

We have a huge yard.
There are goose berries, plums and cherry trees, strawberries in pots all over the yard, and grapevines all along the back fence. In the garden area we have tomatoes, cucumbers, and carrots right now. We didn't do too much with it this year. Did start a compost pile. We were talking about getting a green house or making one. I would love to have tomatoes and cucs all year long. On my window seal is parsley and basil I just started those this spring. Will grow them all year if I can.
If I had my way I would live on a ranch and be totally self feeding lol don't know what to call it, Were we raise our own meat, have our own dairy supply, and be able to ride horses. Barter with the ranch down the road for some of their fine cheese for our awesome beef. *sighs*
Is corn hard to grow?
Didn't do any squash this year.
umm sno peas

I don't really have a garden , but we get a lot of blackberries that grow around the edge of the yard. I have a hard time getting plants to live.

Boo Hoo....we moved from our old house of 20 years, into a brand new place, so just getting the yards going was a challenge.
I did get a couple of my raised garden beds up and planted, so have a few veggies...
zucchini
yellow squash
cucumbers
red bell peppers
green bell peppers
several varieties of tomatoes
herbs
mints
Next year, I'll get the rest of my beds done and add some
strawberries
carrots
lettuces
asparagus
blueberries

Nods. I got my front garden all squared away for this year, haven't managed to tackle the back garden.
It was REALLY important that I got the herbs up and running, as well as peppers and tomatoes.
I like to make my own bread, and thus, my own bruscetta. Herbs just taste nummy when they're fresh, and making your own spaghetti sauce is loads of fun.

Thanks
I don't give him bruscetta daily, but he gets it once in a while. I try to spoil him terribly

Well, spoiling terribly can have its rewards! lol...
I try to do that when I have the chance...and coming up on 24 years, it seems to be working! Although I do have to say, if I gave him bruscetta or any bread goods often, I'd be bowed to like a goddess! Even if he couldn't quite make it to his toes, due to the 500 pounds! He he...

Cucumber, carrots, tomatos and thats all pretty much that i have actually 'grown'
I also have a peach tree in my yard, though it probly won't fruit for another 2 years due to me getting mad one year at getting rid of all the bad ones (LOTS OF THEM, EVERYWHERE!!!) and cutting all the branches (not fatally, just enough so they can grow back less thick this time... they were literally breaking horirbly due to the weight of the fruit.
I also have a walnut tree, which is another pretty big pain in the ass of its own. Able to get a whole lotta good walnuts but thats the problem, theres a lot of those aswell. I end up giving up and running them all over with my lawnmower.
I do think of myself as a fairly active gardening person though for a college kid.

1 tomato plant.
that is all.
(until next year, then maybe we'll get brave & do a bunch more) btw, should our plant be taking over our entire yard? It's absolutely insane lol

lol mine doesn't its just three plants that goes up. I have one of those circluar things you put in the ground made out of chicken wire that kinda force the plant to grow up instead of out Circle it in chicken wire and it'll adapt

I currently have a thistle growing in the planet in the back. My dad gave me seeds for, um, rutabagas and corn to put in there, but I can't really see that happening.
I'd like to grow peas and carrots - that's about the extent of what I'll put in there, I imagine.

We only grew 3 varieties of tomatoes, and 3 varieties of peppers this year. We're thinking next year we'll take a year break from our garden. We have a small and rather useless backyard which is why we converted it into a garden.
Oh, other years we've planted onions (didn't work well), spinach (bolted), swiss chard (yum!), beets (did ok), squash (didn't grow well).
Our soil seems to be acidic or something as it grows acidic foods fairly well, but we can't get plain old zucchini and squash to grow! Oh, and here's a tip. Marigolds around the perimeter of the garden really helped to keep the pests down. We didn't plant them this year, and it took us a month to figure out that slugs were destroying our plants!

Yes marigolds are a wonderful way to keep pests away! Including (I think) rabbits and other rodents. And they look and smell nice to us, too.
There are ways to reduce the acidity of your soil if it is extreme, Lady. Limestone is the most common way...your local garden center should carry the proper kind to add to your soil.

Yup, lime I think is the most popular.
The thing is, tomatoes and peppers cost a lot more than the stuff we can't grow!

I'm also going to spray my apple trees this year so that I can actually pick them and eat them and not just let the worms take over again (what can I say...I love apples and having a few trees full will definetly save me some money at the supermarket )

The garden is planted...
In the main garden bed:
Tomatoes... Golden Girl, Big Boy, Health Kick, and Grape.
Pole beans
Sweet peas
Sweet corn
Cantalope
Cucumbers
Leaf Lettuce
Watermelon
Gladiolas
Zinnias
Marigolds
In the bed next to the house:
Daylillies
Sunflowers
Chives
Lavender
In the pots on the deck:
Mint
Basil
Thyme
Nasturiums
Petunias
Coleus
I have a few more flower beds to work on as well. But the garden bed already has plants emerging. It's so exciting to see the rows of plants.
