We have been in alpha for a long time now. Is beta even in view over the horizon or is it still far off?

Beta most likley won't happen until we get the New View System done... Not sure when that is going to happen.
the New View System is the largest undertaking right now, and it should have the most impact on performance as well. Basically the whole view system has to be created to be more in-line with the new DirectX stuff rather than a hack for the old DirectX to work with the new one.
Hopefully it happens sooner than later, but the main contributors to that code don't really seem to have a lot of time right now to dedicate to it. It's getting done slowly and surely, but it isn't at lightning pace.
