Surveillance tape shows witnesses stand by as an East St. Louis police officer shot in the face struggles to get up.
Officer Michael Baxton Jr., 26, attempted to pin a man against a car last month while trying to make an arrest, according to KSDK.com. In the video, Cortez Gillum backs away, then pulls a gun and shoots the officer.
A few people come to look while others unload a car, but no one provides assistance.
"It's already dangerous out here let alone trying to be a part of something that you know nothing about. It's going to make you a victim next," one anonymous resident explained.

I would only get involved if it was safe to do so and I felt like I could actually make an impact. What the heck do you do if someone is shot in the face? Obviously I would call the police but... what kind of first aid would you administer? Try and stop bleeding without suffocating? Ugh.

in reality there is very little you can do by yourself with no equipment even if you know what to do, but those very few things can save someone. for example, if someone was shot in the face and lost consciousness they might be in very serious danger of aspirating blood into their lungs. rolling them on their side could save them.
