Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

Have had my new iPad for a couple weeks, like it. Got an issue though. iBooks has declared war on me and I will vanquish this evil foe if it takes my dying breath. iBooks is Apple's ebook reading app. It doesn't come with the iPad, but every time you go to the app store it asks you if you want to install it. I tap "no" in response to this challenge. I think it just happens each time I visit the featured apps section. I remember this happened with my old iPad also. I don't want iBooks, but it's so dam persistent that you just have to yield and surrender to it. And I surrendered with my original iPad. But not this time. I got a brand new iPad and I will not surrender to iBooks. I will not install it no matter how many times you ask me. The answer is always and forever to be "no". Sure it won't hurt me to install it, but it's the principle, if I told you "no" the first time, what makes you think I'd change my mind later? If I really want iBooks, I know where to find you. So leave me the hell alone, will ya? If Apple really wanted me to have this thing so damn bad, why not just include it into iOS by default? Anyway, I will continue fighting the great battle against the iBooks install. I will continue tapping "no" when you ask me to download you. I will shake my first in fury and I will scream, "Not on my iPad, never!" I will do this for all the people that were not strong enough to fight on and fell in battle. I will remember you all as I struggle on every day hoping to some day see the end of this cruel and unjust war. Fight on my brothers and sisters... fight on.

I say pick an Apple store and go there every day and ask them the same question. Like "Do you have carrot cake?". Repeat until they tell you they would do anything to make you stop. Then ask for the App store to stop nagging you with its iBook fetish.

I installed it and put it in the container I have for other useless Apps, like the Stock ticker and the address book.

Install it and don't use it. Use the Kindle app instead. It's that simple. I don't use the Windows 7 Media Player or PaintBrush, although they didn't bug me to get installed, there are always going to be apps installed you'll never use. /shrug

Here is my problem, if they want you to have it on there, why not put it preinstalled on there. Nothing should bug you to install like that.

Maybe Ravyn's "unglued/cracked" edge of his iPad is hacking how his device functions... AND the App store. It's the crack of Doom! It's the crack of hack!

Windows XP was so terrible with that. Windows 7 got better, but would then ninja reboot during the night, even if you had stuff open (grr). Windows 8 is going to be less naggy I hear.

The war is over... I won! After this post, I've noticed I have not gotten a single further nagging request to install iBooks. Not sure if it just it was setup to bug me half a dozen times or perhaps just for the first week of activating a new iPad. But now I can go to the Featured apps page and not get a pop-up window to install anything. It's peaceful bliss. And I won.
