Viable Solo / Raid Worthy Class

I know it's a lot to ask! But I was wondering what class is great at soloing, and also worth having along in raids? From my brief research - I've come up with Reaver / Friar / Ranger. Anyone else have advice? Honestly I'm open to all classes. Maybe there's a class that's underplayed and needed? *Yes I'm new to DAOC* Because I'm new, I'm worried the 3 classes I've mentioned are maybe difficult to play? I thought I read somewhere that friar are hard to play well. But that could be RvR specific. I'm looking to purely PvE. Regards, Etris!

With changes to the game, especially the introduction of Realm Buffers, pretty much any class except pure healing classes can find somewhere to Solo. You need to find the class you like playing the best. Just start a toon and follow the Startup Quests and see how you enjoy playing it. In big raids, usually all the required toons are present, so again having one you enjoy playing is best. For small groups, you will find the best choices are: either Shield Tank (Go Midgard Warrior for your first time, you can play with other ones later and join the ranks of alt-ohlics), PBAoE Caster (Go either Midgard Spiritmaster or Hibernian Enchanter for your first time) or Heal/Buffer (Go either Midgard Shaman or Albion Cleric for your first time). Of these, only the Warrior is really useful to play Solo though. Healing class is the hardest to solo, unless you spec heavily into their casting line, in which case they aren't really a healing class any more. On Gaheris you can have 10 toons in each of the 3 realms (i.e. 30 toons) so it's well worth playing about to find one you enjoy. Create it, play it for an hour of so. If you aren't having fun, try a different style of toon or a different realm. Some people enjoy all classes, but hate a specific realm. Some people enjoy a specific class type and hate others. Most of us have the full 30 toons rolled and equipped. And then have to decide which to delete when we want another. Find an active guild you can chat in. They'll help you out a lot, plus gives lots of specific tips to specific toon types.

Excellent information! Thanks a lot. Currently enjoying Ranger, however I find myself switching between Bow and Daggers often which is quite annoying. The mobs are always alive by the time they get to me, does that change the higher I get?

Rangers get a lot better especially with higher RR. Friars and Heretics are a lot of fun and pretty tough to kill once you get good at playing them. Other great solo toons to consider are the pet classes like Sorc, Cabalist, Animist, Minstrel and Theurgist they are fun to solo and in the case of the Thug are very useful on raids.

What Rasta said. Most raids (other than TG) will need the quick dps a tic brings. And solo a tic is a farming machine

You can solo with almost toon fairly effectively, but if you are still building your little empire and not botting.. a 50 rejuv/50 enhance tic is really a good place to start.. archers are great but not so useful anymore in bg's.. friars are the best pure solo toon but again.. utility in raids can be iffy (though groups like the resists and heal procs).. rarely scorned but lots will mumble "shoulda brought a tic".. I do Draks in lab usually with my Ice Wiz.. is he the best? no.. is he effective and fun.. hell yes after the 50/50 its up to you whether to throw any points in weap.. you will almost never use it.. better throw dregs in shield and use champ styles fer weap... once again.. you will rarely use unless yer cornered.. then ya snare, run and fire.. so yer block stun styles can help there with higher shield
