Correlation does not necessarily equal causation. The actual reason could be something like people who eat small portions of chocolate frequently have better self control when it comes to eating, and therefore are also eating reasonable portions throughout their entire diet. Unfortunately I'd bet that a lot of people will take away from this article that adding a small Hershey's bar to a high calorie diet will lead to weight loss. edit: I was reminded of an article about a nutrition professor who lost weight eating mostly twinkies and other hostess snacks, but overall a significantly lower amount of calories than he was used to. Then dont buy it by the bag. Buy a small individual bar every couple of days or whatever. Basically only buy in what you plan to eat. You cant eat what isnt there! Yup, what people really dont get about healthy eating is that EVERYTHING is ok, as long as you are actually sensible and eat it in moderation. If you like burgers and fries, have it once or twice a month, max. If you love chocolate, have a small portion a couple of times a week or whatever. It's not going to kill you if you eat it like that, it's only when you eat nothing but McDonalds and sweets that you develop a weight problem.
