Jerry Jones suing the NFL over the salary cap penalties.
|
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is ready to fight for his franchise. At a luncheon Friday, Jones said the team planned to take action against the NFL after it was docked $10 million in salary-cap space for manipulating contracts in the 2011 uncapped year. "We will and have expressed that we don't agree with that," Jones said, according to the Dallas Morning News. "What we're doing is a combination procedural and legal and all of that." The Washington Redskins lost $36 million for similar infractions. Both teams' lost salary-cap space can be spread through the next two seasons. Jones said he had already reached out to his long-time rivals. "First of all, there is no joy in Mudville, having to team up with the Redskins on a point with the league," Jones said. "They're competitors, not cohorts. It just shows you, independent of that, some of the issues we have with this cap space issue. Sometimes you can have strange bedfellows and this is one of them." The Cowboys are still assessing their options, but Jones maintained his team had done nothing wrong. "I don't want to make our case here," Jones added. "But all of our contracts were approved by the league and you can't approve a contract that is in violation of league rules. You can't even get it on the books if it isn't in sync with league rules. So you start there." http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d827d3a82/article/jones-says-cowboys-will-protest-nfls-salarycap-penalty?module=HP11_headline_stack

they didnt sign anyone they cut people and ate the penalties all at once instead of lay-awaying the penalties over multiple seasons.

same can be said about bounties... same can be said about filming... not sure how binding it is, there was plenty of talk about it when the smack down was laid.

the NFL puts out to not ABUSE the lack of a salary cap. the two teams had their contracts done up, and assuming you are right about the NFL approving them, and they go along because there is no salary cap. the NFL determines that the team abused the salary cap. Jones did not say a single word about the memo that he accepted. let the courts decide, but the players have a MUCH better case than the two owners. players had a binding contract that had no hard limit but the NFL put a soft limit in.

then why did they approve the moves to begin? the nfl could have kicked them back and said rework them, but they had no legal grounds to do so. and unless there is a clause in the new contract that makes it retroactive, then what grounds does the NFL have to stand on?

Yes The memo might be binding depending upon the contract(s) between the nfl and the franchises. If the CEO of burger King puts out a memo that says wear red hats is that obligatory? I don't know you have to look at the contracts between franchise and franchised.

Hello Sorry, the truth hurts sometimes I really would like Remo to be good since he is from WI, and it isn't his fault he ended up with the cowboys. However, I think time has shown that he just doesn't have what it takes to be a winner.
