They had bounties.... not for just the stuff for hard hits like probably every team does... BUT TO ACTUALLY INJURE AND TAKE PEOPLE OUT OF THE GAME.
Hell, I wouldn't be too surprised to see some lawsuits, player to player, to come out of this for getting injured during a game now.

I can understand punishing someone for a "Suh" type hit, where there was no good intent and all the player wanted to do was take the other person out, but if it's a legal hit, and the guy gets hurt... that's football, man. If you don't like it, go play basketball or something.

Because that will set a benchmark for punishment just for intent to injure.

It wasn't that long ago (Oct '08) that a league VP promised to look into Terrell Suggs' radio comment admitting to the bounties on Mendenhall and Ward after Lewis broke Mendenhall's collarbone and knocked him out for the season. Outcome of that "investigation": Fines: Zero. Suspensions: Zero. Sternly worded letters: Zero. Nor was there any response to Brian Billick's comments that the worst part of Suggs' admission was not that there was a bounty, but that Suggs spoke about it outside the locker room.

Having an incentive program for big legal hits is normal in football. Paying incentives like $1500 for a knockout and $1000 for a cart injury is just stupid and really has no place in the game. I'm ok with the penalties.
