If he does not want to overclock could just use stock cooler.

800w is a bit overkill. You would be fine with 500+ and that build. More so if there is no plan to do SLI. That build will play anything right now and future games probably fine.

What monitor?

I know they plan on getting a new monitor but not sure on size.NO SLI. just one monitor. I would say somewhere around 23inch. Yea i know the powersupply is overkill but that is one thing that can always be transferred to the next build. I can look for a 600-700watt for price differences. I forgot to add a dvd/cd burner/reader. i saw one for like 18bucks thats not a biggie. I was actually going to use a spare one i had lol.

To some extent, but if PSU is more then 5 years old, I think about replacing it if doing a fresh build. It would suck to burn new parts because psu died beatup .

I do not know much about OZC psu. I know they do not make their own. There is a chart out there that lists who makes what and who rebrands what. I would just check out reviews and prices. Yeah 600 is better and leaves room for GPU upgrade later if needed.

Be careful with the case and the Cooler Master heat sink.

On my build in January, the heat sink was so big I had to take the fan off the side panel for it to fit.

He will love that system though. It will play anything you can throw at it.

Edit: looked closer at your case & it doesn't have a side fan.

Also, you will need a CD/DVD drive.

I true friend would have him spend the extra $15 on the Antec Ninehundred Two case. happy
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129097
You get a painted black interior and the motherboard tray has a cut out so you can access the CPU cooler back plate under the motherboard, very useful with third party heatsinks. Later your friend can upgrade his CPU and be able to remove the cooler without having to take the entire motherboard out.

Here is an idea regarding the SSD and hard drive pairing. I think I'd spend more for a larger SSD and less for a larger, but slower HDD.
120GB Corsair SSD for $160
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233206
1.5GB WD Green hard drive for $115.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136892
That way you'll have more room for the OS, apps, and games on the SSD. Then the slower hard drive can be used to store your music, movies, porn, whatever. This doesn't cost too much more.

If you want to go smaller on the power supply, I would not use OCZ. OCZ is really hit and miss on quality, some models are okay, others are garbage. I can't remember off hand if that particular model is garbage or okay. It's just easier to recommend Antec or Corsair since they don't mix garbage in their lineups.
This 650 watt Corsair is a nice one and it has a nice sale right now too.

I did mention no dvd/cd burner.

the SSD i was just going to put the os and his main game. i do like the case you suggested lol. no side fan needed when you have a huge one up top lol. i also noticed that power supply and added to my cart before i saw you mention it !

I have that card myself and the only criticism I have with it is a lack of driver support. The drivers on the cd work fine, but do not show up as registered, and there has been no official update.

i dont consider 1300 bad at all with the components mentioned. try buying the same setup from dell/alienware/hp and see how much you spend!

I never had issue with mail in rebates before the last build I did in Dec. Still have not seen any of the 3 rebates sent in from gigabyte and antec.

To get the price down I'd probably dump the SSD and custom heatsink. Those are luxuries that can be added later.

$225 i2500K
$110 Z68 motherboard
$40 8GB memory
$90 650 watt PSU
$100 Windows 7
$20 DVD drive
$115 case
$140 WD 1TB Black HDD
$200 GTX 560

$1,040 (I rounded off prices so give or take a few dollars).

For a 27 inch monitor. I'd check out this thread.
http://www.overclock.net/t/1215866/reviewed-400-2560x1440-ips-no-ag-90hz-achieva-shimian-qh270-and-catleap-q270

People are buying up these Korean 27 inch IPS monitors with 2560x1440 resolution for only $400 (includes priority shipping from Korea). And they are getting pretty favorable reviews. I'm kinda thinking about getting one. Though the con is any warranty support is probably a major PITA in a best case scenario or non-existent in a worst case scenario.

I might have to order one of those. I'm not going to be building a new system for a couple of months. But for that price I might have to buy the PSU now.

Don't mean to throw any sticks in the spokes, but had to mention it from personal experience - I think the 60GB SSD will end up being too small. I got a 60GB SSD too, and I have only Win7 + my programs on it and there are only 12GB free right now. Can't put a game on it or it will fill up completely.

I wish I had gone with a 120GB. I will end up upgrading sooner or later and the bottom line will be the cost of the 60 + the cost of the 120, when I could have saved money if I went 120 to begin with.

I am eying a Mushkin Enhanced Chronos 120 GB SSD that has great reviews, and costs only $129.

Max Sequential Read Up to 550MB/s

Max Sequential Write Up to 515MB/s

4KB Random Write Up to 90,000 IOPS

MTBF 2,000,000 hours

It's faster and x2 bigger for just $30 more.

60GB will work though.

Windows is about 15GB.
Program Files are 1 to 2GB.
Pagefile I'd reduce to 2GB.
Hibernation I'd disable.
My Docs, Music, Videos, and Pictures I'd move to the HDD.

So with care, you could probably keep the OS and apps at around 20GB. Leaving more than half left over.
Ideally you don't want to fill an SSD, it can hurt performance, but still plenty of room for one or two large games or a few smaller games.
