Got to come home today! We had to stay 24 hours longer due to Liam having jaundice. He had to spend quite a bit of time tanning. I am doing okay - still a little sore and can't sit for very long. Liam sleeps/eats/poops/pees like a champ.

Congrats again mal. It will soon get past the amorphous blob that craps all over the place stage and you'll have a quick lapse between that the the thinks for itself and becomes a little monster stage. Note: It will continue to poop all over the pace regardless of the stage it's in until it hits the "I hate you" stage. Then, if you're lucky, it will only pee all over the place. Good luck!

Haha I thought the same thing. He's adorable!! With my third we had to go back in a week after she was born so she could tan for a while under the bili lights too. With the little sunshade over her eyes and nothing else on except a diaper she really did look like she was sun-bathing. Had to do that for three days. She HATED being taken out from under the lights, whether it was to be changed or fed or anything. But stick her back under there and she was like "hey, this is awesome...just gonna relax, oh yeah..." I hope you dont like sleep. another tip dont pick the child up every time it cries, if all of its needs have been met.( I know this goes against parental instincts) trust me, you dont want to end up with a needy baby that always has to be held.

Infants aren't needy/clingy under a certain age, and certainly not as newborns. If they cry, there's a reason, and no reason not to pick them up. In fact, studies have shown the opposite- more contact with mom/dad makes for a more confident, well adjusted baby/child. Crying and not having their emotional needs met at such a young age can be detrimental, emotionally and mentally. Repeated studies have confirmed this. And you say you're studying child psychology? WTF kind of backwards program are you in?? http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/10/061027184248.htm http://www.askdrsears.com/topics/fussy-baby/7-things-parents-should-know-about-babys-cries http://www.livestrong.com/article/521018-the-importance-of-picking-up-babies-when-they-cry/ http://www.ahaparenting.com/ages-stages/newborns/case-against-ferber-sleep http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2010/apr/21/leaving-baby-to-cry-brain-development-damage Pick up your baby when he cries!

maybe I should have been more clear. after a couple months, when the child becomes alert and aware of whats going on around them. the more aware they become, most babies will figure out "hey if i cry my needs are meet." after a while some babies will learn to fake cry to get attention. a child doesn't need to be picked up every single time it cries, check on them, but otherwise you will end up with a toddler that wants to be carried all the time.

ABSOLUTELY 1000% with Gaev A child under the age of six months old is NOT manipulating you with their cries. No such thing as holding them too much! They are communicating something to you that can not be said with words. Congratulations Mal and Loth Liam is beautiful! Truly... ~Murron~

Me& the ex made that mistake with my oldest and we ended up with a 4 year that refused to sleep in her own bed. Just trying to save them some pain. but everybody hates me here so really whats the point in even trying to be helpful anymore.

I don't hate you in the least - I don't hate anyone on VN. However, I do not agree with any of your opinions, your misogyny, your politics, or generally anything you post about. You come across as an entitled, spoiled, selfish individual and I consider you one of the last people on this Earth I would take parenting advice from. Lastly, you don't know me. You don't know anything about how I plan on parenting, let alone who I am as a person. So with that said, please leave it be.

They've had Liam for 5 days. they are probably overwhelmed. Unsolicited advice doesn't help.

Sith, even I, as a mother of 5, know NOT to give unsolicited advice. Let people parent their own way with their own child.

Exactly. It's probably never the time for unsolicited advice, but NOW is for sure not the time.
