Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/ Stardock's Start8 application brings the Start button back to Windows 8. And it's kinda neat in idea, but in actuality it seems pretty worthless to me. You get a Start button, but you don't get the old style Start menu, but install a windowized Start Metro screen. Unfortunately in this screen the scroll wheel doesn't work in the main part and it's actually a lot more cumbersome to get to your applications this way than using the native Windows 8 Start screen. And sadly the registry trick with the Developer Build last year no longer works in the Consumer Preview.

i'm already planning to skip right over win8 and stick with win7 x64 for as long as i possibly can, just like i did with win2k and winxp heck, i still think win2k/xp > win7 simply because of the ease of finding everything, configuration and the sexy explorer. i can't stand win7's (or vista's) explorer :\

I agree with Speak. This sounds like a version I'm better off skipping.

Its funny that Microsoft has admitted that they don't want another XP. They never intended for one version of Windows to last as long as XP did. They way they are heading with Win 8, It seem like Win 7 may just end up the new XP.
