On sale on Woot right now and our currect vacuum is getting up there in age. Keep in mind I need something that will suck like 20lbs of dog hair a week.

My ex girlfriend had a Dyson. It seemed to work very well. But I generally wasn't paying much attention to the vacuum as she liked to do house work nude or in just an apron.

You probably want to get the regular Dyson "Animal" (DC 28). The ball versions have smaller canisters.

If you can get a DC25 for $250 it might be worth having to dump the canister more often while vacuuming.

You'll probably have to empty it more often but that's pretty easy with a dyson. I don't have the 'ball' model but the one we do have would easily have picked up piles of dog hair. Silver

Pretty sure that's the model we have. Absolutely no problems with it, and it's way better than my old much more expensive vacuum. We don't have dog hair to deal with but considering what it can pick up I wouldn't worry. Emptying it is simple and pretty tidy, the canister and how it attaches is well designed.

That's my exact vacuum, and I've been sucking up Golden Retreiver dog hair with it for over a year now.
Works great.
Pros: Easy to use, very maneuverable, great suction, easy to maintain, easy to dump.
Cons: Small canister requires a lot of dumping (though that is easy as hell), and the "wand" aspect of the vacuum is terrible outside of about 3 feet.
Forgot to mention the coolest thing about a Dyson.
When you first get it:
1. Vacuum your house with your old vacuum.
2. Go over the same area with the Dyson.
3. Wonder why you ever bought anything but a Dyson.

Wash's hair sticks to the bristles of the vacuum. I have to clean the roller every time I empty the container.
how does the Dyson compare?

I keep Biscuit cut pretty short, I've never had a problem with dog hair in the bristles. It's usually a string of some sort.
Since I bought the thing 2 and a half years ago? I've cleaned the bristles maybe 3 times.

Woot has sold them a few times, most recently for $299. I'm not sure if they were refurbs or not, however.
