So I bought a key to Guild Wars from EBay. The seller sent me a picture of the key as a zip that is password protected, so Firfox couldn't scan it before downloading. So I have the file but haven't unzipped it yet. I scanned it with Malwarebytes and Microsoft security essentials, but now I'm worried since its a zip, they might now find anything. Ideas/suggestions? He has 100% positive feed back, but it seems like a strange way to send the key. He is also mailing it.

I'd just extract the JPG. MSE should hopefully let you know if it's infected.

Sometimes one can be a bit too paranoid. Just open it, you only live once.

I always just email files to myself to have them scanned by yahoo. I'm not sure how effective this is...but it's quick and I haven't had any known failures. edit: this doesn't work for large files of course.

You should be able to right click the zip file and have MS Essentials scan the file. Shouldnt matter if it is zipped or not.

I like this idea also. Knoppixs is good - This is how I remove viruses from other peoples computers.
