Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

in a county vehicles and only gets a ticket for improper lane change. http://www.wtop.com/?nid=58&sid=2766006 The story is now the police officer didn't give her a speeding ticket since his speedometer wasn't calibrated....

Yeah, I got out of a ridiculous ticket in my teens because the cop didn't state when his speedo had been calibrated in his statement. It's kinda the law, even if you actually were going really fast.

why do people on the city council get a taxpayer car? That sounds like the bigger abuse.

105 in a 55 is misleading, the article stated that the officer's cruiser had to reach 105 to catch up with her. If she was travelling at 105 and the cruiser was also going 105, they would stay the same distance apart, so her speed was something less than 105. You'd have to know how much time passed from the time her car went by the police cruiser until the officer initiated pursuit, what the starting speed of the cruiser was (i.e. was the cruiser stopped?) Then, based on the acceleration curve of the cruiser and time to intercept (or distance covered) you could calculate something close to what her alleged speed was, assuming her speed was constant until she was pulled over.

Maybe, but the article doesn't tell you the dash cam recorded the officer's speed up to 108 and that the council woman also got off the beltway through two intersections before being stopped by multiple police vehicles.... http://www.wjla.com/articles/2012/02/karen-toles-caught-going-100-mph-don-t-give-ticket-73150.html This is supposed to be going to a police administrative review where she may receive tickets. Considering you should be able to time the camera footage and get a pretty close number on what she really was doing.

So the equation would look something like this...

Haha, that county is where I went to college, Uinv. of MD, and where I bought my first house. I lived in it with 4 female students, of my choosing of course. I took one with me to Hawaii, the first time I came here 22 years ago. I got caught in Mont. Cty, doing 93 in a 30, but I was on a bike a Kawasaki KZ1000. Ahh home sweet home, man does that place suck ass.

In a kind of related story, when I moved back to Oregon I still had Colorado plates on as my *primary* residence was in Colorado. I got pulled over by a motorcycle cop with a radar gun and he claimed he pinged me doing 45 in a 25, but the kicker was two-fold: I had *just* left a red light, doing a left turn, and when I challenged that claim by stating the white panel truck next to me was going faster than I was through that turn he claimed that truck was doing only 30. When I asked how I wasn't passing said truck he said it takes time for the vehicle on the outside lane to pass the inside lane. I then asked to see his radar calibration certificate and he claimed that in the state of Oregon police officers are not required to have calibrated radars.
Bunch of B.S. either way - the judge didn't want to hear the claim of unverified/uncalibrated radars and gave me a reduced fine.
