Cracks on my HP Touchpad
|
I got a new case for my Touchpad, the official HP case, it was on sale. But just before I put my Touchpad into the case I noticed a crack on the back from the USB port almost an inch long. No idea how long it had been there or what caused it, I've been pretty gentle and had no drops. I checked XDA and sure enough, there has been quite a bit of discussion of cracks from the speaker ports. The plastic cutouts around the speaker and USB ports are very thin, they didn't bother to round them off at all. So I guess it's not surprising that small fractures can occur at these thin sharp edges, then spread into a crack. Then a little while later I just happen to notice I have a second crack from my speaker port to the bezel. Some people said they had luck getting HP to replace their units, but this was months ago. Kinda scared what HP might dig up from the trash heap to replace my unit with now if they did it at all. I may just live with the cracks, some used super glue with mixed results to try to stop the cracks from spreading. The Touchpad really feels like a great quality product, but seems they overlooked this problem. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250645 http://www.forbes.com/sites/briancaulfield/2011/09/08/customers-complain-hps-undead-99-touchpad-developing-cracks/

A plstic Epoxy might be a better choice than superglue. Its thicker and a little more trouble to mix together.

I've got the same, I always throw mine though so I'm not sure what it was from. Not throwing it hard just a toss on the couch or passenger seat and the like. Stinks but Im not too concerned as it still performs as intended. I was thinking of getting the armor shield to wrap it if the cracks started to spread, seems like that would shore it up. One of my friends has it and its not bad looking.

mine has cracks too. they're very small and don't seem to matter much. my nook has been broken all but in half in a few places (it's common as hell with the nook 1) and still works fine, so *shrug*.

I had the same thing with my white iPhone 3GS. There's something about how they manufacture the plastic moulding of the case. Inevitable.
