Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

The methods behind Survivorman did add authenticity and other perks, but I think Dual Survival includes many more lessons in each episode since there are two experts with different backgrounds who don't have to lug around camera gear for 7 days.

probably not...since he'd try and talk you out of a fight first lol. best show on tv? no...i watch it sometimes though because those kids of shows are entertaining to me. I liked that alaska experiment show a lot when it was on (like 5 different groups surviving the winter season in different areas of remote Alaska)...that was a neat show. although a bunch of people quit on it because of RL issues or weren't staying healthy.

Ooooh those survival shows are the only programs I watch. Haven't heard of the Alaskan one. I wanna get my hands on this 100 days documentary http://www.brettonthewater.com/expeditions.php?e=2

http://planetgreen.discovery.com/tv/alaska-experiment.html it's not nearly as "serious" as the other shows, because they have almost constant support from experts/cameramen...and a few times they bring in guides to take them on big hunting trips (there is a moose and mountain goat hunt I know). But it's mostly city folks, so they have ZERO experience living like that. It was on discovery to start I think, and they show re-runs every once in a while. that brett on the water show looks cool. also, there is another one where a guy goes and lives in the wild by himself for like 3 months...he ends up calling it quits after a little over a month I think because he was basically starting to die. here is part of the first episode on youtube... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xugVC41uHbs

If you want to see some really cool "hermit" type survival stuff, look up Richard Proenneke. He went off to live in the remote Alaskan interior as a hermit in a cabin he built at age 52, and lived there for the next 30 years, only leaving occasionally to visit family in the lower 48. There was a documentary made about him called "Alone in the Wilderness" which was just awesome if you like that sort of thing. As for Dual Survival, I enjoy the show, but Cody I think his name is, the guy with the bare feet, would piss me the eff off if I had to deal with him regularly. I have no issues with his wilderness survival acumen, but I think his whole shorts and bare feet deal is just too eccentric.

If ignorance were painful, half the posters here would be on morphine drips. Everyone playing WoW knows everything about playing two classes: 1) their own and 2) Hunters

Out of the Wild: The Alaska Experiment and Out of the Wild: Venezuela were pretty damn good.
