Seriously, google the crap out of it if you must but tell me what you think the number is because I just watched a show on the science channel that says a waaaaayyy different number than what I've thought (to date)

Ya that's the numbers I've been going with, However the science channel show on light said that the hubble deep field telescope pictures taken in 2004 went back 30 billion years and then he stated that that was nearly three times as old as the Earth... So it basically tripled the numbers that I've always thought. Which was cool and all but left me wondering which was the more accurate number. I can't imagine the science channel being so wrong though....

It's going to be very interesting if/when we discover that time is elastic. Otherwise since I have no real idea of how old they are, I would have to parrot the numbers published by current main stream science.

The problem with determining the exact age of the universe is that we don't know where it ends and begins. So far all we've got to go on is that faint light/radiation from 13-15 billion years ago. It could be even longer, but we just don't have the technology to track it. That said, I remember an episode of Dr. Michio Kaku's Sci-Fi Science show, where he talked about being able to create a new universe and creating a wormhole that could stay open long enough for you to go there. I think he said you had to heat up some matter about a trillion trillion times, then find a way to stabilize the wormhole which connects our universe with the new one long enough to send some data through that could reconstruct another "you" there (he said you couldn't physically go there yourself if I recall). The interesting part was that when this new universe is created this way, it begins to expand massively, but at the same time goes into its own dimension separate from ours. It's sort of like WoW's phasing system, where multiple layers of the same map can be used in one area, and they're all independent of each other. Which sort of loosely describes the multiverse, aka parallel universe theory pretty well... Another interesting question for me is, if the universe is 13-15 billion years old, and the Earth is only about 4.5 billion, were there other species throughout the universe that existed before the Earth did? Like what about a species whose star system existed a couple hundred million years, or even a few hundred thousand years, before ours? Assuming they didn't wipe themselves out, what kind of technology do they have? If you see how fast humanity's technology is progressing (for better or worse), I wonder what an alien species that's been around 200,000 years before ours is like and what they're doing...

Science has been upgrading some theories over the last few decades. With the huble telescope and observing stages of a supernova for example, things have happened up to 100 times faster than predictions. I think man has inherent need to claim something is older than it actually is. Like the cute blond at the bar winking at you, and your mental focus on her large bajoobies rather than her braces.

That was likely talking about detecting something that was 30 billion light years away from Earth. Which is possible thanks to the expansion of space over time.

It doesn't. Ever. The 6000 year old earth is a product of counter intelligence within the scientific community and the religious right from the 80s and 90s. It's based on the 4000 years of family lineage between Adam to Jesus. The concept is laughable since later in the bible the suggesting crops up that in early times man's lives could be measured in hundreds of years. According to the old testament Methuselah lived till 969! His kids lived into their 700s. So, the 6000 figure is selective religious dogma meant to force a divide between the religious and the scientifically curious.

There's a complete genelogy in Scripture where you can trace the families all the way back to Adam and Eve, who were created shortly after the universe, roughly 4000 years B.C. Then you add 2000 years to get to current day. HTH.

The universe didn't begin the way we understand the concept of "start." As with reality, the light bulb is on or off, when it's off there is nothing and when it's on light fills every space. Past, present and future. All at once.

I thought this was the accepted "truth" for a long time and that scientist tried their hardest to fit into that time frame. That was how a lot of the crazy ideas before Evolution came about in the scientific community. (see inheritance of acquired characteristics) It wasn't to cause a divide. Darwin's research is what caused the truth and the divide to happen. It has been a while since I was in a biology course. I am probably wrong.

Mascara, that's not true.. Fossils found in regular stone floors disproves the 6000 years theory, I can literally go out my door just outside it is a slab of rock that actually has a trilobit infused in it.

I can only draw conclusions and make up my reality on the proof presented to me by nature and proper peer reviewed science; not fanciful thinking and sub-par ancient fiction and the word of mouth delusions of people who despair at the thought of nothingness. I'm not afraid of nothingness; it's going to be exactly the same as it was before I was born.

The universe only exists for a moment and then is gone but it comes back... So its very new, less than nanosecond old.

I do. But the vet gave the tick some meds that help it sleep through the night.

The universe didn't begin the way we understand the concept of "start." As with reality, the light bulb is on or off, when it's off there is nothing and when it's on light fills every space. Past, present and future. All at once.
Is this a wild guess or is there solid scientific evidence to substantiate this? SHOW ME YOUR PROCESS!

That was likely talking about detecting something that was 30 billion light years away from Earth. Which is possible thanks to the expansion of space over time.
You mean as in the universe expanding faster and faster? Doesn't that violate E=MC^2?

No it doesn't. There's just more space-time between two points than there used to be yesterday.

I guess I'm just not understanding that part well enough, it would seem that something would have to violate that law for things to be farther out than the age of the known universe or were able to at some point to exceed the natural speed of light in order to make that leap. I know it's possible to alter the speed of light I just don't understand how the math here is working.
