While the -40 didn't happen, I am sure you bought that truck.
Unless you have a tonneau cover ready to install, keep the cap on for the winter.
Nothing worse than wanting to pick up something (it is a 'pickup' after all) and the box is full of ice and snow.
ps: front tires don't look like they are winter treads.
