How come in all these zombie movies and shows the zombies only eat living people or living people they just killed? Shouldn't they be non discriminatory? I think they should eat each other.

this was even more confusing in 28 days/weeks later. like.. they were still alive. they just had super rabies or some profanity and they never once turned on each other. but you know.. billions of rats were running the fk away from them out of fear or being eaten.
i get it as far as a story plot goes, though. zombies that eat each other are not scary. the ones in i am legend (the book) would attack each other. the ones that were more zombie than vampire anyway. the fully conscious ones that retained their memories didn't do that.

If you think of it in terms of an evolution/survival thing the virus or whatever is trying to spread so is seeking out tissue to infect not already infected tissue it makes sense but that assumes a lot, lol.
You would still expect fighting among themselves though as survival works that way too. Too many mouths not enough food and all that.

Read a book not to long ago that explained in the science fiction world of zombies and why they eat living tissue only. They don't need to eat to continue existing. It's the virus that keeps them moving and nothing rational about it. The virus needs to infect and the zombies are a host that accomplishes that. It can't already infect a zombie so it seeks out clean humans and animals to infect. But there is a hunger that exists in the infected and so they go through the movements of eating even though they don't need to. Infecting is enough for the virus but it can't control that base need of eating.
I like how in the resident evil series the birds were infected to and anyone bitten by them would be infected.

The logical answer to this is that the virus wants to spread. It can't spread to something already infected, so it seeks out the uninfected. And, if you're going to viciously kill something, why not make it a human?

I disagree, I had a first print I think paperback copy of the book I am Legend and they touted the Omega Man as the movie from it, it is the cure search and the female it in that counts, though I like the ending of the book better where in the end he is the monster.

It is based on the novel I Am Legend (1954) by American writer Richard Matheson.[1] The screenplay is by John William Corrington and Joyce Corrington, and it was filmed in Technicolor with monaural sound, with a running time of 98 minutes.[2] Its producer is Walter Seltzer, who also produced Heston in the 1973 science fiction film, Soylent Green.[3]
The story was first filmed as The Last Man on Earth (1964) featuring Vincent Price.
