Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

Pretty sure i already know the answer but since i haven't kept up really with video cards was wondering who all has experience with the gtx580s Looking to purchase this one (or the one with just the GPU liquid cooling) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133398 However after checking their website they say minimum 700w PSU with 42amps on the 12volt rail. now i have http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006 which is passing the minimum and the amps needed, but I'm just wondering if the 700w for a single card is even near true? i saw one guy comment on the GPU cooling only card stating his 800w PSU didn't cut it but then with some more effort with Google people state you can run 2 580s with a 750w? so I'm just a little lost. Also how good is PNY? they're the only makers of such a card with cpu cooler but i've always bought EVGA in the past. Thanks

They all estimate power supply requirements high and a few estimate really high. This is probably one of those really high estimates. I have a personal grudge against PNY that dates back to my PNY Geforce 4600 RMA from hell. Haha. So I don't have anything nice to say about that company. Hardware quality is probably the same same as others and as long as you don't have any problems with the card it's fine. Customer service is definitely leagues below EVGA, so if there is an issue, it's going to suck.

I've got an evga GTX580. Great card. Any good PSU over 600w is all you need.

That's what i figured, however I've decided to wait a bit and see how nvidias 600 cards do once they release later this quarter.
Might even drop the price of the card i linked or can possibly pick up a 600 card for the same price.
Ether way i can wait. Just been playing the Tera online beta and with my fps dipping to the low 30s high 20s in towns just figure its time for an upgrade in the GPU department(running a 768mb version of the 460).

nVidia said to expect about a 30-50% increase over the 580.
