Replacement for Photoshop 7?
|
Ok, I've been using a really old version of Photoshop 7 for at least ten years now. It does what I need it to do (auto-brightness/contrast) but isn't it time to switch over to something newer/simpler? I don't do serious pic editing... just the basics, looking for fast & easy. Suggestions???

Want something free? I use gimp for the rare occasion I need to edit a picture. http://www.gimp.org/ I have no idea how it stacks up to Photoshop. It was free, so that's what I used.

A very nice and easy photo editing program that is also very powerful and used even by pro photographers is Adobe Lightroom. I thin kit is about $150. I have used it and it is very user friendly and allows you to make all sorts of changes to pictures I would not have imagined. Pretty low learning curve too. Allows to apply the same change to multiple images with a couple of clicks, remove dust spots, correct for lens aberrations, make changes only to certain colors/ranges or areas of the picture. I'm pretty amazed by what it lets you do and how easy it is. Adobe have some short and useful video tutorials for it too if you want to learn all you can do with it faster than just experimenting.

Gimp is very powerful program. It probably has most of the features Photoshop CS series has. It might be overkill though and overwhelming for some as well.

Lightroom is awesome for photos.

Paint.NET if you want something simpler. GIMP if you want something with more Photoshop like features.

Gimp is a decent open source alternative with a horrible user interface (at least when I last used it). I'm married to Photoshop for life, unfortunately. It rocks for everything from simple things to things I can't even do. Kinda reminds me of Office in that respect...

Photoshop elements or Picasa would be my vote if you're talking basic changes. One free, the other pretty cheap, both handle raw and jpg. Otara

I just gave Picasa a try, since I'm looking for a free GIMP alternative that will support layers. Sadly no layer support in Picasa (Paint.NET has no layers either by the way). But looks decent, especially if you are a Google account user.
