How do you remove the preview pane from a google search? I can turn it off so it doesn't display anything. But the pane is still there, just empty. I have a wide screen monitor and the empty space takes up about 2/3 of my browser. The search results only take up about 1/5 of the browser, with the images, videos, maps, ect options taking up the rest of the used space. It's rather annoying! I don't remember it doing that before today. I'm pretty sure the search results would take up the whole page. Is there anyway to change that? And what other search engines are there? Bing does the same thing. And Yahoo (does anybody use Yahoo now days?) just leaves an empty space.

http://www.altavista.com/ actually uses Yahoo. http://www.webcrawler.com actually does a better job. If I can't figure the google issue out, I'll have to give Webcrawler a try.

I've got the button and the popup completely blocked with a user script on Greasemonkey. It's called Hide Google Instant Preview Button.

Thanks, that greasemonkey script helps. The preview button doesn't display anymore. So I won't accidentally hover over it and get the preview. But I still have a lot of wasted empty white space to the right of the search results.
