Boot Disk Failure

My Home Server mainboard bit the dust (Abit IS7) and since I didnt really want to re-install home server I bought a replacement Abit IS-7 off ebay. Everything seems to be fine except when the computer attempts to load the OS I get "Boot Disk Failure, Insert System disk and press Enter" message. Is there some way I can get by this without re-installing the OS? I have stuff on the harddrive(s) that I'd rather not jeapordize with a format and OS re-install.

Is your hard drive seen in the BIOS? Is it the first boot device?

Yes, both harddrives are seen and properly detected by the bios. I did use the windows homeserver disk and it showed that I had the primary IDE connection on the incorrect drive. I switched the connector but that drive wouldnt even start up. I got a different error message like press CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart or something. The harddrive window in home server even showed that the drive had a 20GB SYS partition. So, I am now formatting the system volume. Hopefully, all my "stuff" is on the other drive and safe from harm.

I would have pulled the BIOS chip from the original board and swapped it with the new board. Then connected everything like you had it originally.
Just remember that the settings in the BIOS like CHS / LBA / LARGE for the HD identifies the hds / sector size and if chosen incorrectly will not boot or act like a system disk.

BTW, glad to see others still keeping the ABiT's alive.
Some of the old mods from the original forums hang at TheRaptorPit and ABITHELP.com.

Most bios have the choice of controllers: IDE, RAID, AHCI (or something similiar), then sometimes, you can choose various SATA compatibility modes. Toggle these setting around and see if you can't find it.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I am getting a bit impatatient in my old age. Today is my birthday. I have "re-installed" the operating system. The software was smart enough to recognize that WHS had been installed on this hard drive previously and just reinstalled to the original SYS partition. All my stuff seems to still be where it should be so all is good for the time being. Now I am just going through all the updates to get it backup and running. Again, thanks for the help.
