As one reads Table A-1 in the total participation rate, we can see that people not in the labor force exploded by an unprecedented record 1.2 million just for the month of January
So as the labor force increased from 153.9 million to 154.4 million, those not in the labor force surged from 86.7 million to 87.9 million.
Which means that the civilian labor force tumbled to a fresh 30 year low of 63.7% as the BLS is seriously planning on eliminating nearly half of the available labor pool from the unemployment calculation
Now if one looks more deeply into Table A-1 and then to Table A-6

and lastly to Table A-9, one sees it is workers over 55 are a growing percentage of the labor force while those under 65 are declining in percentage of the labor force.
Also as one continues to peruse Table A-9, once can see the numbers of full-time and part-time jobs creatd. 80k full time jobs and 699k part-time jobs. That means only 10% of the jobs created were full-time jobs ( ie real jobs).
One has to wonder how many of the 699k part-time jobs were holiday related????
And for those who are asking, so what is the real unemployment number if the 8.xxx number pushed by government is profanity???
The answer is , if one counted unemployment like FDR did then it would be 23%

The adjustment increased the estimated size of the civilian noninstitutional population in December by 1,510,000, the civilian labor force by 258,000, employment by 216,000, unemployment by 42,000, and persons not in the labor force by 1,252,000. Although the total unemployment rate was unaffected, the labor force participation rate and the employment-population ratio were each reduced by 0.3 percentage point. This was because the population increase was primarily among persons 55 and older and, to a lesser degree, persons 16 to 24 years of age. Both these age groups have lower levels of labor force participation than the general population.
In other words, the participation rate (employment-population ratio) was reported to have dropped by 0.3%, exactly the amount of participation rate "drop" created by changing the population number used in the calculation (due to updated census data.) Without this once-a-decade adjustment, the change in participation rate would have been reported as...wait for it...zero.
I don't want to overstate the significance of Durden's oversight, which conservative voices around the media and the web are also making, namely the idea that the participation rate dropped 0.3 percent and the labor force dropped more than 1.2 million in the past month. Those things are simply not true no matter how loudly people scream "conspiracy" and "propaganda." (Having been trading financial markets for about 25 years, I've heard these same accusations about economic data being manipulated to help the incumbent president -- whether Democrat or Republican -- so many times, they just bore me now.)"

Its not only this but baby boomers are dropping out of the job market at a clip of about 15000 per day, every single Jan there is a drop in labor force because of seasonal work and companies do most of their layoffs in December to avoid a mountain of tax crap, insurances, etc etc. This is all crap we learned in like 10th grade economics, I have no idea why BT is posting it because its too stupid for even him to believe.

Once again, your analysis is a steaming pile of fail. You forgot that we have a record percentage of retirees in the population, and January is the prime retirement month. While I'm sure the "real" number of people dropping out of the workforce is definitely obscuring the true unemployment rate, that has been true for a very long time and the drop in unemployment in January is still an accomplishment.

I made periodic posts as a mod clarifying that it is not ok and hasn't been ok for about a decade now. Just because someone might have done it and gotten away with it doesn't mean it's allowed. This is nothing new..
