I really want to take my kids on an awesome vacation. I looked into beaches, but that's like 6k after airfare and stuff. Anyone have suggestions for something a lil cheaper. Like 3-4k is what I was hoping for. Any Hawaii ACFers know of some family resorts that aren't crazy expensive?

Ice never been to Hawaii. Id like them to be able to do a helicopter ride or boat ride to see the volcanos and stuff, but mainly looking for an awesome resort on the beach.

Well you have to factor in how many people and for how long. Then airfare, food, and general transportation. Obviously somewhere to stay. Your budget's looking a little shaky.

I know. Do you know of any resorts in Hawaii that offer an all inclusive deal like beaches? Airfare won't matter. I can figure that out. I was hoping you'd know since you live there.

Beaches are free lol. It's everything else that's expensive. Edit: You really need to narrow down an island. I can help a little with Maui, AK with the big island (I think??), and Hyper with O'ahu.

If yer looking for beaches coming out of Chicago, maybe look into going down to Florida or Los Angeles? Might be cheaper as they are closer, and alot of theme parks in both places for the kids. See if you can get a deal for a Hawaii vacation. Look hard. Either way, good luck, post some offers you find, and I'm sure, beyond the goofiness, we'll help you out.

Basically lol. I'm just trying to get an idea of what to suggest. The places I was looking at went from $100 to $1500 a night on Maui. Some places are nicer than others, some areas are nicer than others. Same as anywhere else heh. Edit: Well if you decide to visit Maui, you can PM me whenever you need to. I can give you all sorts of stuff to do and see, places to avoid, places to eat, etc.

i can tell you where the two best shaved ice places are in maui! san diego would be cheaper than hawaii for a vaca but i don't think you're going to find any all inclusive places in the states. index claims they aren't legal here. if you don't mind possible kidnapping, rape and murder, there's some good all inclusives in mexico.

what about a cruise out of Florida? The one I went on to Alaska was pretty cool for kids, they had their own "bar" of sorts and an arcade besides all the pool and mini golf, basketball, and rock wall climbing. Some of those boats even have surfing.

Our family went to Maui over Thanksgiving and found very reasonable condos with ocean views at a nice resort. It was also cheaper since that week must be a slower tourist time there. Silver

Continental and United both have some of the best combined air, car, hotel deals you can find, but before you pick the hotel please check with me and I can give you the skinny. Locals use Panda Travel and CHeap Tickets started here in Hawaii. Oahu is cheapest, has the most crowds, Kauai is most desolate, Maui has day and night life and the Big Island has an actively erupting vacation. If you play golf and are on Oahu I can suggest and join you if you like for a round.

Hawaii is pure awesome (or at least Oahu). There are a ton of sites to check out beachfront condos or houses to rent for a family vacation. Cool thing about Hawaii is all beaches are public, so there are tons of places to access a beach. One thing to also check out is luxurylink.com, they sometimes have REALLY good deals on some nice places. One thing to note about Oahu, though, is that the winter months have big waves on the north shore, so you probably don't want the kids in the water on the north shore. The Ko'Olina Lagoons are nice and you can't beat some of the natural beaches on the south and east shores.

Yes, ages of children matter for destination. Akumal on the East side of Mexico is a great little community. Tulum is to the south and there are lots of ruins in the area (plus awesome beaches). Of course Im biased because I have a 3 bed/ bath house with a pool on the beach I can use whenever (courtesy of some well off relatives). Felt very safe there. We took our teenage girls to Cabo last year and the Big Island 4 or so years ago. Mexico they were eh about (no cell phone service for them - they didn't need it!). My youngest at the time (13) had the most fun as she is outgoing. She even danced with a bunch of drunk people and the dj at a beach bar (Billigans or The Office I forget). And being sober, she was the best dancer up there! Hawaii they love but they also like to do $$ things (grandma spoils them). Myself..I love Disneyland. Been 3 times that I know of in my 45 years. The last time was the best! (kid at heart) How about Fl?

Foxy, we both know you NEVER invite someone to Galveston/Crystal Beach. Upon entering the water, the skin's pigment begins to adapt to the colors around it. You'll get back in your car before you notice just how green you've turned.

she took a cruise to alaska out of florida? holy hell, even the US Navy doesnt do that transit route... panama canal transit anyone?
lol, no, I suggested florida to him, since those ones are generally cheaper than the west coast cruises. Our cruise was crazy expensive, but that was my mom's fault and she could have gotten it much much cheaper if she'd let me shop around for it. If you use a credit card they often have special rewards for customers to get cheap cruises. There are some Mexico cruises as well from the west coast, depending on how much airfare is from your neck of the woods to where you're going...

Road trip then... Since you're in Wisc... Drive to Maine, spend a couple days there... Drive to Florida sightseeing... Spend a couple days... Go to Disney World... Drive to California sightseeing... Go up the Pacific Coast Highway driving to Washington... Then back to Wisc... *shrug* Plenty of beaches except for the string between Washington and Wisconsin...

Oh christ. Just say no to road trips. Also be wary of theme parks. Your 7 year old can probably ride most of the rides. Your 5 and 3 year olds are going to be crying screaming slobbery messes whenever they have to stay with mom while dad takes the oldest on the fun rides... If you drive there, you'll get to hear them fighting and crying and pooping and peeing about it all the way home.

Ever considered doing something epic, like touring Yellowstone, or Yosemite and camping? The US has a lot of natural wonders that are totally awesome, but don't involve flying to one coast or the other. Also, Canada has some great places to visit. Off the top of my head, I'd suggest looking into Yosemite Yellowstone Mammoth Caves Grand Canyon Utah/Arizona deserts New England tour, if your family has been here for generations, there could be a lot of family history there. You can visit the old battlefields and still find stuff left behind from what I've been told. Consider renting a cabin on a large lake and doing some boating.

If you are serious I will send you my mobile number. I have two extra sets of golf clubs, so you don't need to lug those over. I am a certified diver too if you are and I can suggest some pretty decent shore diving and show you some cool entry points. You can always do a day trip to the volcano on the big island (Hilo side) using Robert's overnighters or Panda for an air+car rate. If you are on Oahu there are plenty of better more desolate beach parks on other parts of the island, other then Waikiki where you will be staying. I wouldn't stay in Hilo though, (boring) to see the Volcano more than overnight, which is cool since you can see the lava flowing at night into the ocean. MY favorite beach park on Oahu includes if you a like, a snorkel/swim to goat island. http://www.to-hawaii.com/oahu/attractions/goatisland.php

in reality he should save the "big trip" until the kids are older, but he doesn't seem to think so... obviously Disneyland is a bad choice, but checking out our national forests isn't a bad idea.

That was my recomendation. Wait until the 3 year old is closer to 7. At 11 your oldest will be able to enjoy most things at a theme park and your youngest can ride. My advice. Save your money. Rent a boat or find a friend with a boat. Take them fishing and intertubing one weekend. The 3 year old isn't going to remember your epic trip and your 5 year old is going to be angry the whole time. Edit: If you just want a fun vacation for yourself, a lot of the recommendations in this thread sound great. *shrug*

Hang out at Lanikai beach on Oahu till a rich single woman picks you up. 3 year old might not remember much but the 7.5 will remember the volcano anyway.

I took my daughter to disney when she was 6, and we were able to go on all the rides she wanted to go on, but disney is geared more toward the younger kids. She was also tall for her age, from a list I just viewed you have to be 46" for Indiana Jones. We went on that ride so she musta been that tall or pretty close to it. I concur that renting a cabin on a lake or just going to a lake and renting a boat would be about as much fun as those three ages is going to have. If you insist on going to Hawaii, you might want to just get someone to watch the little one. They aren't going to enjoy nor remember it, and you could save a lot of money on airfare and food if you don't take em with.

enjoy and remember are not the same thing. I don't know how many trips my brothers and sisters talk about that I can't recall.. it's always one of two things. you weren't born yet, or you were too young to remember that, but it was sure badass! its frustrating being the youngest and not remembering going to places.
