They already keep track of everything you do through any of their services. So now they'll tie your email account tracking info with your youtube tracking info. Doesn't really bother me. Unless there's something here I'm not seeing?

I can see this bothering some people. While it is the nature of the beast to make changes to your privacy policy from time to time, saying you can't opt out is going to anger a certain portion of your customer base. The truly bad idea here is the affect on Android phones, I don't see this working out well for them. /shrugs

Look at it like a single account. Done. If this bothers you, simply log out after you are done with your email and it wont be able to track you when viewing other things.

http://venturebeat.com/2012/01/24/google-privacy-policy-changes/ Doesn't really sounds like a big deal to me. They are basically trying to tie in their products together into a more unified ecosystem. Kinda surprised it wasn't already done. I don't really see the harm of one Google product sharing information with another. Could be useful. PS. I'm wary of how newspapers word their technology stories. Think the Washington Post probably tried to make this seem worse than it really is.

This, I believe many non-technical people will freak over privacy concerns. I could care less as I use, and will continue using, Google but I do expect some backlash from others.

I agree that this will bother some people. And yet:- When Wikileaks and Anonymous threaten other people's privacy people jump with joy at the power of the internet. When Google threaten their own privacy those people scream with hatred at the power of the internet. We all need to wake up to the reality of the power of the internet and decide how the issue of privacy is to be treated - for everyone.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/technology/how-to-close-your-google-account/2012/01/25/gIQADAxbQQ_story.html This is exactly the types of reactions I expected. The trouble is, an awful lot of privacy advocates have absolutely no idea how things like this work. They read something that infers privacy is being violated in some fashion and run off screaming and yelling. I love the internet but it has done more in the name of herding the ignorant sheep out there than any other form of media ever created. You have to take the bad with the good I suppose.

I love YouTube, Google Search, and Android. And I've even had a Gmail account since 2005, yet I don't use it. I still use my ISP's email account @cox.net.

I've used my ISP email accounts before. But a lot of sites tie your email account to their login account... this one for example. Whenever I have to logon here I have to use a very old comcast email address that doesn't exist anymore. At least not with me. I've been able to update my contact email address here. But to logon here I have to use the email account I used when I originally created my account here. I've tried, but never been able to figure out how to change that. So now I have two gmail accounts. One my friends and family know. And one I use when creating website, gaming, etc accounts.

buy a domain and use your own email server? *shrug* that's what i've done since like 2001. this change doesn't bother me. i use an android phone and i don't really care if they track what i do on youtube with my troll account. if i ever need a real account, then i won't care what they track me doing on that one either.

Well it seems fine to me. Instead of collecting data separately, they are just putting stuff together I guess...?
