Old Player Considering Returning - Questions

Hey guys,
I used to play back around '99-'01ish on Thistledown. I just have a few questions that'll help me decide if I really wanna travel down this rabbit hole again.
1. How hard is it to start from scratch these days?
2. Are there any good sites with guides/info on all the changes that have occured and how to not miserably fail as a noob? I just read some of the conversations on sites and boards and I barely recognize any of it with all the things that have changed since I played.
3. Any good sites with updated character builds? I've come across a few but they seem to be pretty dated.
3a. I've always been a mage kinda guy, but I quit right when the Og build was reigning supreme and the battlemage build was just being theorized about. Now I see all these builds with melee defense and I'm just blown away hah. Is Void Magic good enough for a returning char, or is it more of a twink type build that needs equipment to do well?
4. What non-Darktide server should I play on (Yes, I'm a carebear haha)
5. Is it still WORTH it to play Asheron's Call?
Asheron's Call was the first MMO I ever played but it is still my favorite. So many great memories from this game.

I returned about 4 months ago and found its much easier to start out .. in the training hall you can be lvl 5 in 30 seconds, then talk to the blue armor NPC's at the stater towns (right next to the lifestone) and they give you XP getting a few more lvls .. do the cow tipping task and your lvl 16 in no time .. then facility hub quests, tusker tusks and olthoi oincers (all portals to the dungeons are in one place) will pretty much get you to 50 ... then your one your own ... there is much much much much to do and to learn so much has changed but its all for the good in my opinion .. you get most XP from "quests" now so if you get in a good allegience that quest a lot you'll have a lot of fun ... there are some good dungeons for grinding XP if thats your thing too ..
From a returning player its actually "funner" than it was way back when ... I'm not a big player and dont get to do many quests and have a lvl 145, 115, 92, 88, 75 charecters already .... word of warning is that you feel like a total doofus as acronyms and things that have been in the game for a while since we left people assume you know so you'll be dicovering new things all the time ... I still am ..

wooops ... I forgot to add the AC Wiki organized by Sucamarto is great and its spelt ac wikkii :-) .. it has leveling guides which help A LOT! :-)

Awesome! Thanks for the great info everyone! I'm gonna do some more research and mull it over but I think at the very least I'll do the 14 day trial. See you guys in Dereth!

If you are cool you won't use the quest hub, town network, or starter quests. I love starting from scratch, self buffing, etc., do it on DT all the time. It's possible! You can fool yourself into thinking it's just like the old days.
Edit: With the ridiculous server populations, now is a great time to play on DT. I've been on Araanidim the Lost lately if you get on there.
