It was surprisingly easy, once i got used to actually doing increases properly it was really easy. I made it too big, though, so i had to change the style a bit by making the brim smaller than the rest of the hat but it works lol

definitely you! Now make one with ear flaps, and use good yarn (not red heart). http://www.knitpicks.com if you lack yarn stores there. (I love their stuff, the baby alpaca is so soft), and you might like their chroma line.

Very cute! I'm much more a solid-color kinda gal myself, but that's just me. Looks good for a first hat!

be prepared, good yarn is expensive. Some of my favorites are $25+ a skein.

For Christmas I got one of my knitter friends some alpaca wool yarn. OMG that stuff was buttery soft, but a small skein was $20. She was ecstatic though, so it was worth it

point your friend to the website I posted. Their baby alpaca is exquisite and much cheaper than most places. I buy almost all my yarn there because of price and selection. the only yarn from them I wouldn't recommend is called palette yarn, its not soft.

Looks good. I assume the multi-color is a tad more difficult to do, but not my preference.

Ah! The patterning looked more coordinated for just striped yard to pull that off, but good point!

That's a cool looking hat. Guess I should add the obligatory, "You should have made it about twice as big so it covers your face!" attack that seems to be perfectly within the TOS provided it's a Sooz thread.

It actually did look a bit complicated. Good show! You should make one for your hubby in his favorite team's colors and/or me one in Cowboy colors. You could also make an ACF special and make it out of tinfoil.
