He is a political noob and honestly thought many of his promises he made would be easy with minimal effort. When he became president and was briefed on all the details, nuances and steps to close Guantanamo and withdraw immediately from Iraq he did what presidents before him had done who made tall promises, swallow your pride and keep your head down.
