I had an old man once try and tell me my cellphone is corrupting my aura and then proceeded to use the tricks those bracelet guys use to demonstrate it's "effects" on my "aura". Old Man: "Put your phone on the counter and place your hand on it." Me: *does it* Old Man: "Now extend your other arm straight out, and try and prevent me from pushing down." Me: "Okay." Old Man: *Leans on arm, obviously pushing it down, nobody can resist that." Old Man: "See? Now, take your index finger and make circles around the battery for thirty seconds or so, this neutralizes the effects on your aura" Me, thinking to my self: "Oh jesus christ kill me now" Old Man: "Ok that's been about thirty seconds, put your arm out again and watch" Old Man: *proceeds to squeeze my arm with his hands and act about as good as a pre-schooler like hes pushing hard, clenching his jaw and squinting -- the whole works" Old Man: "See?" Me: "I know what your just did, it's a scam." Old Man: "It's not a scam, son. I'm a doctor, you can trust me" Me: "What kind of doctor?" Old Man: "I'm a chiropractor, a nutritionist." Me: "Neither of those are doctorates." This is when he gets mad and walks away mumbling about how he was just trying to help me.

Our brains are very powerful. Simply thinking that a bracelet is giving you better balance, or putting you in a better mood, may actually accomplish those things through increased confidence. And to the comment above... Chiropractic has been accepted by the AMA to be legitimate therapy for over 30 years. Some Chiropractors make ignorant claims, but a vast majority of them are legitimate practitioners.

You can generate your own placebo by believing that you are better at something because you switched from regular milk to Soy. Dark Coffee to Mild. No need to spend $30 on a piece of plastic that costs pennies to make.

There is no failing hard. If someone ever said to me, "Do you know anyone that has boughten something?" I would mock them soundly, because it's not a real word.
thefreedictionary.com may argue that it is a dialect word, but dialect words do not often find their way into M-W or OED.
Therefore, no, no failing. It's not a word.
Edit - and when they do, in checking M-W.com, they're listed as dialect words, only used in local circumstances.

I bet that 50+% of people near you would not say boughten because it would make them sound unbelievably stupid. Still no failing. It is not a real word. Additionally, any school that teaches children it is a real word, is doing them a disservice, because once they hit the real world they will be thought of as stupid.
