Getting his nails grinded. He's always so easy going and tolerant of like, everything, but this he hated. He was stressed out and barking and pulling away. He wasn't biting or anything, but they muzzled him, then had another person hold him, and finally he gave up and was just staring at me totally defeated looking the whole time. ****ty picture:

Why did they grind? Clipping is so much faster and there is no noise to add to the anxiety. Harper hates clippings but if I'm quick I can usually get a paw done before he gets too antsy and I give up.

My daughter is so great with the animal nails. Big dogs, cats, it doesn't matter. She is real good at positioning herself so the animal can't move and its done in a minute. She doesn't grind them she has real nice sharp clippers. The cats are crazy.

Yeah... I've seen those things in action. A grinder would trip Harper right the f out.

Wash pretty much hates everything at the groomer, he pouts every time he has to go for days afterwards.

You have to train them to accept the grinding. I grind my dogs nails down, she lays on her side quietly till I am finished then hops up for her treat. Grinding is supposed to be easier on them as it doesn't pinch the nail like cutting does. I like it because it gives a nice round nail with no sharp points to scratch.

I tried buying one of those pedi-paws grinder thing, my dog run when she hears it turn on. She doesn't mind her claws clipped though, as long as the groomer is doing it. She and I went through a painful experience once when she tore a nail off, but I had to finish cutting the last of it because it was hanging by a thread and making it so much worse for her.

I clip my dog's, then use the grinder a bit to take off the sharp edges. He's fine with all of it. Well, tolerant of it. He doesn't enjoy it per se...

There are a few in this thread, I think. My dogs always stay outside because I'm not some mud-hut dwelling, hunter-gatherer.

Seems like an odd thing to say. I don't live in a mud hut, nor do I hunter-gather, so therefore the dog stays outside? I don't get it. I'm neither of those things either.

Our dog was always really good with the regular nail clippers. She'd just sit there with her paw in your hand waiting. But that grinder thing... I can't imagine she'd have liked that. It's loud. She also didn't like those big groomer places that smelled like pee and bleach the fear and stress from the other dogs would get to her and she'd try and run away. We used to take her to this small one down the road. It smelled so nice inside and the girl was so sweet, she really cared about her customers. And Sally would always come home smelling like jellybeans
