Armed Texas eighth-grader shot and killed by police
(CNN) -- A 15-year-old student was shot and killed by police after he brandished a weapon in the hallways of a south Texas middle school, officials said Wednesday.
"The student engaged the officers and was shot," the Brownsville Police Department said in a statement.
An ambulance was called, and it rushed the student to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Israel Tapia, a spokesman for Cameron County Justice of the Peace Kip V. Johnson Hodge.
No other students or employees were injured.
School officials and students have since been sent to a nearby high school gymnasium while authorities investigate.

If his birthday was around August-September, it's not that bad. I was 14 in 8th grade, my birthday was in September. I was one of the older kids in my class, but my class had kids born between August through July.
So say the kid is held back one year, or his parents redshirt him for sports, that would explain why he is 15. You guys are making it sound like he was held back 3 or 4 times, which doesn't appear to be the case. This kid would've been 19 when he graduated, instead of 18 like most other kids.

If his birthday is in September he would enter Kindergarten the month that he turns 6 since you have to be 5 and he won't be 5 at the cutoff date(September 1st in Texas).
1st grade he will turn 7
2nd grade he will turn 8
3rd grade he will turn 9
4th grade he will turn 10
5th grade he will turn 11
6th grade he will turn 12
7th grade he will turn 13
8th grade he will turn 14
Now, take into consideration that parents in most states are given the option of starting Kindergarten a year late and you get a kid who turns 15 during 8th grade without doing anything wrong.

same here in MA...
my son was born on sept 13th...his close friend was born august 29th...they were PISSED when kindergarten started and they were separated!
i understand the spirit of the rule, but there needs to be some gray area...or at the very least an assessment for kids within a month of the date.
i went through school before the stupid rules...and college was a PITA as a 17yo for 2 months!

They showed the weapon used this morning and played some of the 911 tapes. That pellet gun certainly looked very real, similar to a Springfield XD, scary real!
The father also spoke out, I will never claim to know the horror of losing a child and I am sure the guy is under some serious denial and stress right now but he came off like a flipping jackass. Crying about why the cops had to shoot him so many times or some crap like that, my son that I do not have anymore. 
Your idiot son took a weapon into the principal's office stating he was not afraid to die and then pull the gun on cops. He endangered and scared the living sh%$ out of teachers, students, and parents alike. You do not have your son anymore because he was an epic moron!
