Truth! I'd say it is probably the best ST movie of all time. Though they're also not that comparable either

I hated the new reboot. The premise, storyline, character reinvention.. Everything sucked, even the casting. Kirk is way too clueless, Spock is an emo bastard and Checkov was a caricature of himself.

People love reboots, which is why that poorly written piece of crap was so popular. Casino Royale was popular for the same reason even though that was a crappy movie too. The movie after Casino Royale bombed because the novelty wore off. If the next Star Trek is written as poorly as the first one, nostalgia and novelty won't save it like it did the first movie. Oh, and...

The reboot was ridiculous and the only people that thought it was bad writing are total nerds who take Star Trek too seriously.

There is bad writing, and then there is offensively stupid writing.
It is stupid to even think of building massive starships on the freekin ground. It'd be like setting up your automotive plant on the bottom of the ocean. Sure, you can build an assembly line underwater and build cars, but it's stupidly inefficient and a thousand times more expensive.

Look, I know this will come as a surprise and shock 'n' all, but Star Trek isn't exactly an educational series on modern physics and science. hth.

So the bad guys go back in time, and instead of using that to their advantage to save Romulus in the past by telling the Romulans about Red Matter a couple hundred years early, or at the very least evacuating everyone off of the planet, they instead just roam aimlessly through space magically evading every single starship in the quadrant for three decades? What a waste of time. I know that if I was thrown back in time IRL I'd just sit on a bench doing nothing for 30 years and being angry at something that technically hasn't happened yet instead of taking advantage of it. This guy could have gone down in history as the man who saved the Romulan civilization, but no. Bleh, it was his fault that Romulus was destroyed. Dumbass writing is dumbass writing.

I cant get past the fact that Kirk, a fresh cadet out of the academy sneaked onto a flagship starship and then somehow jived his way to become captain. Too hard to digest.

They arrive the day Jim Kirk is born. Jump to Spock punching the lights out of some bully. Cut to adult Kirk, Old Spock arrives, and Nero and crew are just sitting there in space waiting for him. What did they do in that 30 year span?

It's hand-waved and easy to miss but...
Remember the whole bit about Uhura decoding the Klingon transmissions about a battle at a "prison planet" where 47 battlecruisers got their asses handed to them?

Star Trek always tried to stay grounded on science. They go to great lengths to explain a lot of things and when they throw around terms they are typically grounded in reality. That is why it is science fiction and not science fantasy. Not to say it is all perfect and hard science, but this film is the farthest departure Star Trek has ever made from modern physics and science.
