If cooking for ONLY me, no because I season for my taste as I cook. If I'm cooking for other people, then possibly, as I don't season as much so anyone else eating it can add more (salt/pepper etc) if they want.

Pepper, hardly ever salt. When I add pepper, it's not some light sprinkling of wimpy black pepper, it's few different peppers, and the food is going to scream in agony and beg to be eaten quickly.

It honestly depends on the dish. Some things I make at home unseasoned or mostly so, because each of us likes it seasoned a different way. Some things I like just salt with, some with just pepper, some with a little of both. And I NEVER season a dish on my plate without tasting it first, whether at my house or someone else's! Aer, my husband is one of those people with only two tastebuds left to his name...and one of them is dying He likes his food FAR more seasoned than nearly anyone I meet, and "subtle" flavors are completely lost on him. To him if it's "subtle" it's bland and tasteless. It's probably because his allergies have effed up his sense of smell and taste for so long.

I hate it when people are offended when you salt their food after you've tasted it. My enjoyment of things being slightly saltier is just as valid as your preference that it be less salty than I like it. Edit: I even salt things prior to tasting if I know I enjoy it with salt and that it doesn't traditionally contain much. Examples: Pizza, Mac + Cheese, stuffing, spaghetti

No, I get that. I've also eaten enough pizza to know that it is always made with less salt than I like, because that is the preference of most people that eat it. If I want to salt it before tasting it, I am going to.

If I was only cooking for myself, I wouldn't. That said, I use way more salt and pepper than anyone else in my family, so I tend to cook to their taste and then add more to my own plate.

You must drink salt for a living... Have you ever checked how much salt is in a single slice of pizza? Keeping in mind that the daily recommended max is 2500mg. There's like 600-1200mg of sodium alreadly in a slice of pizza before you add your salt.

When I quit smoking and got my sense of taste back to a bit more normal, I found that I didn't like the taste of salt. So I never added it to any foods I cooked. If it were already added to food, that was fine. I tend to cook more fresh foods though rather than box/canned stuff.

haha that's awesome. Bet he never did that again! My grandfather used to salt his scrambled eggs without even tasting them because my grandmother never remembered to season them the way he liked. One day she remembered and seasoned them just right, but he didn't know that because she didn't tell him, and so he proceeded to dump salt all over them and yeah But that was the only time she ever remembered to season his stuff that way, so it wasn't like he had to worry about it after that anyway

If I cook the meal, I never need to add salt or pepper - because I season to my own personal preference and taste. It's rare that others need to salt or pepper food that I prepare for them, but occasionally it happens with people who are particular salt-a-holics.

I tend to sweat more than average. I find I can be low on electrolytes if I haven't had something a bit saltier.
Sometimes I get this urge to consume something, even after having eaten a meal without any.

I rarely salt anything. More likely to put garlic on things I want seasoned.

ArchrikerHG posted: pepper, but I taste stuff first...why would I season something before I've tasted it?
A lot of people like bland but salty food.
I like lower salt but, more bite (pepper).
When I go over to my mother in law's, I know there is too much salt because she sucks at cooking. Extra salt just covers up a poorly prepared/seasoned meal. If you are adding lots of salt, consider that you may not be seasoning it well(need herbs, garlic, etc).
I put pepper on everything at my mother in laws to try to drown out the extra salt covering her bad cooking ability.
I tend to cook with a lower amount of sodium in my food. Usually half any suggested amount or not at all. I expect that people put their own salt to their taste in.
The one thing about salt is, the more you eat on the regular basis, the more you need to get the same taste. People who eat a lot of salt, need to add salt because they can't taste the regular amount of salt in the food. Just like if you eat something sweet then try to drink pop, the pop doesn't taste nearly as sweet as it would if you didn't eat the sweets before drinking the pop.

wth? who pours salt on pizza? i never salt food that iss given to me though. i have family members who drown things in salt and pepper. too much salt is bad for your heart and your brain. salt is addicting and takes a few weeks to realize food tastes okay without dumping salt on it. i use no more than a sprinkle of salt when i cook a meal unless im doing something like brining.

pepper is more likely, I weaned myself off salt for the most part. If I eat at a fast food place I have to ask them to give me unsalted fries... even those have enough salt on them for me to taste it, just from being tossed into the fry bin.

Me, as I said. Although I don't pour it on, I sprinkle it like most people do. There's plenty of cheese on pizza, and people still put Parmesan cheese on it. I like the way that the combination of the taste of salt and grains of salt on top of the melted cheese go together. I also tend to highly salt foods which have some type of tomato sauce on them because I like those flavors together.

yep, when I "detoxed" from salt, it was a while before food started not tasting bland all the time. I didn't even realize how much difference I'd made until I ate french fries again, and they almost gagged me.

I don't eat it on crackers, but I do add pepper to cottage cheese if I'm eating it without fruit.

I only add salt to over easy eggs and hash browns. Otherwise I don't tend to re-season anything. Silver

i didn't do it intentionally but the same thing happened to me. i still salt things sometimes, because i don't need to watch it for health reasons. but holy fk i can't eat fast food french fries anymore. they taste like pure salt to me. horrible.

Unlikely, but that depends on what im eating really. I always add pepper to my eggs (and hot sauce), and I usually have to add pepper to my steak in restaurants.

When we're eating out or something someone else made - salt/pepper if needed (after I taste) At home? Sometimes - the BF likes less salt then I do.

Eggs are the only thing I put salt/pepper on and it's usually just salt. I don't have eggs very often mind you.
