I have really extreme dust issues (computer needs a cleaning every 3-4 months). Would my best bet be an air purifier? I know this is an odd question but it is PC related :P

I own one of those, two if you count the one I got my client to get for their office, and use the hell out of it. It is a beast... dust doesn't stand a chance, lol.

As for what to do. Not much you can really. Depending on the case you can get some external filters but then you would just have to keep the filters clean. You could get an air filtration unit for the room the computer is in but unless you have allergies or live in a construction site I think that is overkill.

I agree. Make sure you blow the dust out in another room, otherwise you will have the same dust go right back in your PC. happy

Hah I use it for cleaning out the computers in an office I visit. One of the guys called me and said he had free time and they were rearranging things so was it ok to use it to clean up a couple computers. I came in the next day and heard the horror stories from everyone that he, blissfully unaware, opened up a couple computers right in the middle of the office and blew them out. Not only did he make a serious mess but that thing is LOUD and will clear a desk off from ten feet away. I would've loved to been there for that, lol.

Meh thats nothing. I was trying to blow out an old printer that had not seen any kind of maintenance and lets just say that didn't work out too well. I pretended like there was nothing unusual about the fact that you almost couldn't see, and delayed a bit giving everything a chance to settle.

I'm pretty sure the guy that used the office was like... there is black powder everywhere...

...

Needless to say I did not expect that, and it was impractical to move the printer.

When I say dust issue, I mean in 4 months my GTX 470 starts running about 20C hotter. Then I have to take the cover off and clean the fan and heatsink. Also my CPU heatsink is covered with dust when I clean it out. I may have to pick up one of those little electric dusters, as I figured out in the worst way that the cans of compressed air have bitterant in them.

My biggest objection is that canned air is relatively expensive. I have an Antec 1200 (and a 300, and a laptop, and an old PC that gets used from time to time... and any relatives computers...) and before I'm even done blowing it out with canned air it would be cold and I'd be using two cans in turns.

On the other hand, this gadget moves a significant amount more air, and it lasts until I'm done with what I need to do. I've had mine for over a year now, and its paid for itself at this point.

Sweet idea since they don't have radiators with fans, you'll never pull dust into the PC.
