I've never rolled a character on Mordred. Something about being rolled at practically any place, by any one just didn't appeal to me. Although for a lot of players, it provided countless hours of entertainment and camaraderie. That server was home. Now sadly, it is all but dead, and because of the way the servers were set in the beginning, the characters can't be transferred to Ywain. Many of the players are frustrated and angry to say the very least.
Gaheris faces the same dilemma. On Gaheris, other than the occasional dual, there is no PVP. In the Frontiers, there are no towers, only the main keeps, and they are occupied by high end mobs. Those mobs have to be defeated and they drop seals that the players collect and turn in for realm points.
The other thing that makes these servers unique is that they lack the realm specificity that Ywain carries. On the alternative rulesets, you can have characters on all 3 realms and mix certain gear between them, you can roam each other's lands and capital cities, log off, switch realms, and log right back on with no timer restrictions. A cleric and a hero can run together and assist each other.
Right now, both of these servers are suffering from a severe lack of population and feel that the game developers aren't doing enough to keep their servers alive. So many have said they would gladly drop all their gear if they could transfer their characters to Ywain. For many, moving to Ywain meant a total restart to the game, and abandoning the characters that they often worked years on developing. It meant abandoning the houses they put up, the gear and items they collected over the years, and the plat they earned. None of it could be moved to Ywain. So there it sits on a dead server. Hard to trade for the Ywain equivalent so, you start again.
Topic of the Week asks: Have you played on the alternative rule sets? Do you think anything can be done to revive those servers?

Thanks for the topic! They were going to merge Mordred and Gaheris together and have a PvP battleground within the Coop ruleset. The compromise was that Gaheris would also receive a new PvE Battlegroup as well. This was publicly announced and almost implemented (you are given the option to port to Molvik at keeps but it fails to send you there). Mythic had a reshuffling while the plan was being implemented and so it was tabled. What a shame.

Although they did open up Cathal Valley on Gaheris as a PVE zone complete with 2 high level mobs in the keep that drop seals and trophies.

Indeed they did and as a result did not uphold Mordred's end of the bargain. Oh well, I'm happy that Gaheris got something out of it when Mythic would have otherwise left both the servers untouched.

i suppose some things are just better left alone, think about what happened when toa got introduced... the game virtually died, i dont think the ywain server could handle a Orgins reset personally at this time... just not enough people if 3/4's of the server goes to one new server then 1/4 the population quits... its not a smart way to keep the game going

Is this even a serious question?
Many people played ONLY on Mordred.
We all have fond memories, heck not a week goes by where one of us doesn't mention Mordred.
But Mythic was terrible supporting that server.
I was the GM of the #1 guild on Mordred, indeed the #1 guild in the entire game.
But no one cared, or even asked, when due to changes to the server we left en masse.
How funny is that, Mythic made a MAJOR change to the server, without even announcing it in ANY patch.
No one on the entire server had a chance to comment.
Mythic, without a single note to the population, changed the entire server.
So we,
the top guild on the server,
left.
Mythic listened to some bad advice from a clueless TL. I mean we have screenshots of this TL not knowing basics about how the game worked.
If you want real info, why not talk to the people who played the game hard for 5 years?
I think 50 accounts left when our guild pulled the plug on Mordred, and there were times when we were 20% of the whole server pop.
You want more real comments from serious players, let us know.
(and none of us trust VN, since the same TL that ruined the server, was also a mod on VN that censored our posts. Yes, it was that bad).

20% of the server population having 30% bonuses was exactly why the change should have occurred far earlier in Mordred's history, as had been advocated for years before you dominated a broken ruleset.

LOL...well they kinda gave Gaheris something. A bugged encounter that has never really worked. So although it's open, most of the time it's useless.

There have been many simple ideas thrown out to EA for years on how to improve Mordred. The problem is that they get ignored. Its almost like they have a personal disire for the server to die. They have turned a cold shoulder time and time again.
I think the first step would be to do something, anything at all. People will never come back if the people that created the game don't care enough about the server to make simple changes. They should treat Mordred like a different game. Most people that played on Mordred didn't play Daoc, they played on Mordred. I don't think EA understands that. When they did nothing for Mordred they figured we would all go play on blue servers. But most quit the game entirely. Why play on a blue server on this crap game when we can all go play blue servers on WoW or Rift or what ever. And guess what, none of thoses games have a Mordred.
There are alot of people out there that still have that itch to play on Mordred. Its not blue and its not friendly. Its for the people that want to earn there Realm Rank instead of collect it. It's me and my pals against every one else. Not me and my realm against 2 other realms. We are going to kill you if you con green, we are going to kill you if your xpin, we are going to kill you if your afk. Because thats what happened to us. If you go out into the world here your not safe, and thats what made it exciting and fun. You can't stick up and afk, you have to pull your weight and contribute.
I know of alot of people that have said they would play again if the pop was 500 or 1000 or what ever. I also know alot of people who have said they will never play again because of EA's incompetence when in comes to Mordred. If they want the server to come alive, then they should start by implementing a combat port timer, or make it so we cant use port stones in NF. Makes some simple changes like that and go from there.
The sad thing is I know whats going to happen to Mordred along with every one else, Nothing.

I didnt post thoses ideas thinking that they were great ideas. I said they would be simple changes to maybe get things started. In fact I dont even really like the diea of a combat port timer. I'm sure they will never have character copies to Mordred. If people cry enough they might let chopies off of Mordred.

I agree that if a bunch of blue babies come over it woun't last long. They can't hang here, so the only way to get a population back on Mordred is to make it appeal to people that used to play here. The subject of the post is thoughts on the alternatvie rule set, how to make it better. Not, it will never get better so let me copy off.
I would deffinetly copy my characters over to another server if the opportunity arises. That beeing said, I still would not enjoy it as much as Mordred. So if some one is interested in how to make the rule set better, I will put in my two cents instead of saying it will never work let me char copy off.
I have very low expectations of Mordred at this point to say the least. History has shown that nothing will get done. The best thing is to allow char copy off. But it would be nice to see them do something.

It's hard to take this seriously, when the same things have been said for so long before finally being implemented. Reavers wanted charge for years before they got it. NS nukes needed to be reduced long before they were. Vamps and locks were deliberately overpowered so people would play them and gain fast rr, and both were toned down long after they should have been. Thanes have wanted to be on a higher WS table for years, and only just got it. It seems as though the playerbase knows what it wants, and has no difficulty articulating this. The problem is one of reception and implementation. Making Mordred a portal that bluebies can choose to join would flood Mordred again, as it became the real test for the "leets" and people realized how cool it is to group, for example, a light eld and a body sorc. EA/Mythic just needs to move on what the playerbase has been saying for years, or just give up any pretense of caring.

As someone above mentioned, the proposed changes (Origins and the server merge with Mordred) were so great, that i'd have expected to still have been playing today.
Unfortunatly...all that good work went for nothing, and now DAOC has lagged yet even further behind in the charts.
I loved OF and i loved Mordred, the latter providing what little pleasure i got from the game post NF...now however, it is rarely worth playing Mordred unless you, strangley...enjoy easy leveling and PVE.
I really wish Mythic had kept to their plans back in 2008...it's a true shame.
