Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

Seagate and Western Digital reduce warranties

http://www.dailytech.com/Seagate+Joins+Western+Digital+in+HDD+Warranty+Massacre+Doubles+Down+with+1Year+Warranties/article23545.htm Seagate and Western Digital are both slashing their warranty periods from 5 years down to as little as 1 year from some models, with none being longer than 3 years now. There was the Thailand flood and maybe WD needed to do this because they were severely impacted. Seagate on the other hand wasn't impacted at all. There is also less competition. Seagate and Western Digital have pretty much bought up all the smaller hard drive manufactures. Seagate snagged Maxtor a few years back. And just months ago Western Digital acquired Hitachi. We pretty much have a hard drive duopoly now.

Hmm, it would be nice timing if someone else was able to enter the market right about now.
