Then a boycott of the BCS is absolutely needed. Alabama did not even win their division, not to mention their conference. To give them a shot at the national title against a team that already beat them in Alabama own stadium is completely rediculous. If the BCS pairs Alabama and LSU in the national title game against each other it will be the greatest outrage in BCS history. If you look at Alabama resume there is not a ton of impressiveness on that resume. As opposed to Oklahoma State who won on the road at a top ten ranked team (Texas A&M), beat another pair of top teams in Stillwater (K-State, Oklahoma), and won at yet another great team in Baylor. Three of those four teams figure to finish the season in the BCS top 15. How many top 15 teams has Bama beat? Yeah thats what I thought. Sure OSU lost to Iowa State, but it was on a day that the entire Oklahoma State family was rocked by the news that another plane crash has terrorized their university. Dont tell me that crash had absolutely no effect on the Oklahoma State football team, to belive that would be the definition of ignorance. BCS supporters talk about how the BCS bring importance to the regular season, well Alabama lost to LSU in the regular season, giving them a rematch would give the regular season zero importance. I will not watch one second of a national title game between LSU and Alabama.

Looking at that graphic OSU clearly has the better resume, but it was like a foregone conclusion before this weekend's games that it would be Alabama in the title game... and still it seems like it will probably be Alabama. I don't get it. The only people that want to see a rematch are Alabama fans. Hopefully the voters do the right thing...

The rematch is set. If you needed any more proof of why I do not care as much for college football as I could, this is exactly it. Imagine college basketball where the media votes in the final four, or baseball where the media votes in the college world series teams. College football is the only major college or professional american sports system without a playoff. It is simply outrageous. Now we have this all overrated SEC title game pushed on to us between two teams who can barely score a touchdown. I think to me the most outrageous thing is the Alabama did not even win its division. I remember years ago when KU was 12-1 and was the only school from a BCS conference with one loss they were denied a title game apperance because they didn't win their division or conference. Now they take an Alabama team in a similar situation and go ahead an put them then the title game. Huh? I think winning your conference should be a requirement to play for the national championship. Winning your conference is a requirement to win the auto non AQ bid to the BCS, why should it not be a requirement for playing in the national title game. I dont know how anyone can defend the BCS and college football system after a season such as this.

What's funny is that when people complain about the BCS it's usually because they don't like computers deciding anything, and the computer rankings had OK State #2. This title game is pointless and I hope Alabama wins by 1 point on some kind of insanely controversial play.

It is just not the BCS that I dislike, it is the bowl system in general. It is a stupid system. You get to play one meaningless game about a month after the season has ended. It just makes no sense what so ever. It is even worse when you hear about 6-6 teams playing other 6-6 teams. Talk about a waste of time. College football is the only american institution that has such a crazy system. Imagine two non playoff teams in the NFL playing each other in a game at the end of January. It just wouldnt make any sense. The entire bowl system as we know should be thrown in the trash. College football is not just broken at the top, it is broken from the top all the way down. The best system IMO would be a mix of the bowl system and a playoff system. Play the four BCS bowl games (and no others); the Orange Bowl, the Sugar Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl, and the Rose Bowl. Then have the winners of Rose Bowl and Fiesta Bowl face each other, and the winners of the Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl face each other. The winners of those two games play each other in the National Championship Bowl. You keep the old bowl system, but dump the meaningless bowl games which no one outside the schools playing really cares about, and at the same time you integrate a playoff system into college football. The winners of your five major conference (Big 12, Big 10, Pac 12, ACC, SEC) each still get auto bids to the four bowl games. The best one or two non BCS conference champions get selected to one of the bowl games (similar to the same system we have now, expect one of the non BCS conference schools MUST be represented in some fashion, two if there is a second champion within the top 16) and then you have room for one or two at large bids. Using my setup you would see something similar to this: Oregon vs Wisconsin in the Rose bowl, Stanford and Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl, LSU and TCU in the Sugar bowl, and Clemson vs Alabama in the Orange Bowl. Not the tournament of tournaments, but all the heavy hitters have a shot at the National title, and those bowl games are not horrible matchups aside from maybe LSU and TCU. You would then be looking at a potential Semi Final matchup of Oregon VS OSU, and LSU vs Alabama. The winner of those games would make an excellent national title game. That is a system I could get excited about.

I will watch because I am an LSU fan. I just hope they beat Alabama again. I would have rather seen LSU vs OK State.

The real benefit to bowl games - especially those games between two 6-6 teams - is it rewards those teams that qualify with a chance to have ~20 more practices with their players. If you are struggling to win half your games, you can use all the practice you can get. Since the games don't really count, it also allows coaches a chance to practice under real conditions with more underclassmen than they would in a weekly situation.

You can't deny what LSU did this year. They deserve their spot. But Alabama had their shot and lost it. I'd rather have seen Ok St. Well I'd rather have seen BSU but we all know that ain't gonna happen in my lifetime.

If it is all about the practice time, then the NCAA could just allow schools to have an additional 20 off season practices. There really is no huge reason why they need to have a bowl game to do so. I understand the practices kind of lose their meaning without the bowl games, but as you kind of commented on above, the practices with the bowl games do not really have alot of meaning anyways since the bowl game is meaningless. Even if they lose those 20 practices, I do not think it is that much of a big deal and in fact one could argue that these student athletes dedicated their entire fall semester to football and they should be allowed to at least ejoy a lightened load during finals week and a relaxing winter break without any college football hanging over their head. As a student I know how tough it must be to put in 40 hours a week to football and then turn around and put in another 30-45 hours for classes. These guys have no life, they should not be forced to spend winter break on pratice for a meaningless game. It is just disrepectful to the student athletes who put in hard work making a ton of money for their university, and only get a very small slice of that money back in the form of a 16 thousand dollar a year scholarship.
