Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

Topic of the Week wants about play styles.

One thing about Dark Age of Camelot, it lends itself to a whole myriad of play styles. I got to thinking about all the different styles over the weekend. I personally like to just kick back in the evening after working all day and relax. Yes, I know I'm retired but I still work around the house. I like to log in and have fun running with friends. Then there are nights when I'm just not feeling quite up to it. I'm getting older, health issues and weather tend to bother me from time to time. On those nights, I like to just quietly catch up on crafting, clean out my vaults or just run around solo doing little, non-stressful things. Some nights I'm really into the RVR. BTW thanks guys. I haven't played my blademaster in quite a while. Last night was a blast! Other nights, I enjoy farming various drops or going over to Gaheris and doing a little PVE. Say what you will about the server but Ywain can never match the friendliness of the players over there, or the relaxed atmosphere. It tends to match my personality and play style more. I tend to be a more relaxed player. I like to play and have fun. I don't care if I die because unlike real life, I can always get a rez, see a healer and smith and I'm good as new! I have a 2 year old, and 5 dogs running around my house, so I do have to occasionally go afk for a few minutes here and there to tend to them. At times, things happen and I have to jump ship without much notice. I'm just here to have fun. Not create a reputation for myself or be the most elite player in the game. I've kind of made my own definitions of play styles as I'm sure many of you have. There are the cut throats who think being the first one buffed and ready to go is important? They're the ones that have to win every battle and rage log when they don't. They'll drop you from group without a word if they die because naturally, it has to be your fault. You hear them in vent all the time and swear they're going to have a stroke the next time a Kobie tanks down their group. There are the leeches. They log into the game, get into a group, stick to someone and go AFK through 90% of their time in group and just collect on the xp, rp's and loot. The ship hoppers bounce from realm to realm or group to group until they find the most winning combination. The professionals tend to think they know everything there is about every class and every race in the game. They know every encounter and tell you how you should template, how you should play, and even who you should play with. They tend to run a lot with the cut throats and often the two are interchangeable. They forgot how to have fun because this is no longer a game to them. It's a profession! The late comers show up after the group has left and expect a spot in the group. They show up late to every posted raid. Get into a group, then get distracted by television, telephone, dinner cooking, etc. They don't answer you in vent or tells, then whine when the group leaves without them. So, Topic of the Week wants to know about your play style. Are you typically one of the ones I listed above or a category all in your own? Do you have any good topic ideas? If you have one you'd like to see posted, please drop me a line!

I'm a very casual player who happens to know enough to give a bit of good advice. That works well because I enjoy helping others. That's why I live on Gaheris. lol about the professionals, so true and the leeches don't bother me too much. The know it alls tend to amuse me, especially when they get something wrong and someone points it out, or even better when the game itself proves them wrong when they fail at what they were just preaching about lol.

I tend to play well with others (playing well and playing really good are different right?).. I like to solo with my one acct.. just because that part is just mind numbing fun with scary parts.. hehe Really do like to raid and am usually there early if its posted and I can be there.. Like to have a some kinda toon at least reasonably specc'd and geared fer any spot open.. Am also in-n-out alot. just a fact of life fer my job.. hence the being there fer "posted" raids.. So.. the answer is: Relaxed Advanced Intermediate.. (ask any skier what that might mean.. listen to the answer..)

I think I'm in the majority when I say I'm an inactive player. Oh Mythic, the mistakes you made that killed your game. So sad.

i dont play either so im in that boat. when i played on gaheris id most likely fall in your professional category. although i still had a lot of fun, i quit because play time was too limited to justify 6+ accounts and thats what made the game fun.

i am of the A D D style i played when SI was launched and took a break after getting a tic to 50. just started back 2 months ago. when i played back then i couldnt stop making new characters now, im still making new characters. some 50's some 24's some even lower. i hardly participate in anything above CV level cuz im usually on a lower toon or a new toon. so my play style is as ive already said A D D. theres just something i love about making new toons. it used to be the frequent dings, but now its about the different styles they each offer. i hope this post answered the question. i can be long winded sometimes. cheers

You are right on key man! Perfect description. My play style? Well, I've been playing since 02 and like the young naive 12 year old I was I had a need for being extremely competitive. Throughout most of my DAoC years I associated myself with the "Cut Throat" type players for two reasons. 1. Most of them knew what they were doing.(I know, that sounds elitist but it realy does get annoying when someone doesn't know how to play their class.) 2. They flipped out and told you exactly what you did wrong, and were extremely competitive. Now the 2nd reason is very negative but I honestly wanted that in a group.. I mean, you can't lose a fight and be like, "Oh, that's fine.. We'll get 'em next time guys!" I quit DAoC for about 3-4 years on and off around 07, because of the same exact reasoning behind the "professionals" play style. The game was starting to seem like a job and I felt that I had lost the magic or the "spark" that drove me to adore this game. I recently reactivated because of missing the competitiveness of the game, and all my friends that kept asking me to come back. My play style now? Well, I've been playing DAoC now for almost 10 years and I am 21. I guess you can say that I've grown "wise" in game? I dunno'. That sounds stupid as I'm typing but seriously I get a sense of being a veteran of my class(Shaman) and I don't really freak out on anyone.. I don't get mad at all, but I still consider myself extremely competitive. I'm very helpful to new players, and answer whatever questions I can to the best of my knowledge. If someone messes up I don't flip out and tell them what they did wrong, I most of the time just joke around about it, but let them know what they should do next run or in the future. And you know, I think that's what I want my play style to be.. I think it's good. Be as helpful as you can, and as nice as you can, but still keep that extremely energetic and competitive spark that brought you to love this game enough so you can be the best at your class. Somewhere in the middle of that.
