Subject: Buying a new laptop, very little PC hardware knowledge need advice
First is a Dell XPS 15z. Second is a Sony Vaio S Series. They are almost identical in price. I use it for schoolwork as well as some gaming; Starcraft 2, going to play Skyrim, a few MMOs. Not looking for high-end performance as I know it is only a 15" laptop but something that can run on medium settings and still be what I need for school. Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated.

My advice is to get two different computers. One for gaming and one for school work.

That's unfortunately not an option right now.

I'd select the dell mostly for service if something happens if those are your only two options. Just uninstall all the garbage-ware once you get it. Also, make sure to order the OS / rescue disc.

I'm also to other laptop brands with similar or better specs. My only requirements are 15" screen, 1080 display, and price range around $1100. Thanks for input so far.

ASUS laptops are honestly the best for gaming laptops on a budget.
