Also today is the Motorola announcement in NYC at 9AM PT today. This is likely for the Droid Razr, a 4.3 inch Android phone. Not sure if it'll be Android ICS though (big disappointment if not). http://androidcommunity.com/motorola-droid-razr-image-revealed-from-teaser-site-20111017/

I absolutely abhor Blur. Or whatever the hell they are calling it this week. Screen transitions are slow and jumpy compared to Touchwiz and the integrated apps are ugly.

Motorola is demonstrating their new MotoCast service, calling it a "personal cloud". Though it's just basically a wireless syncing service between your phone, tablet, and PC (your PC acts as the cloud). One thing you probably don't want to happen during your "cloud" demonstration video is for your cloud to fall out of the sky. Their demo PC went offline and they had to go to a backup. Clouds are great. But my phone better have a micro SD slot as my backup. Getting a bit worried neither of the phones announced today will have this.

That Motoactv looks neat, but $250 just seems too expensive. RAZR looks pretty cool, glad to see Motorola is able to use a Super AMOLED display (looks like Samsung is keeping Super AMOLED Plus for themselves). And whew, there is a micro SD slot and it appears they even include a 16GB micro SD card. Sadly the press release says it'll be running Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. Announcing a Gingerbread phone the same day Ice Cream Sandwich is announced is sad.

Do you think perhaps they just weren't allowed to show ICS yet? Remember ICS got delayed, they might of had to change some plans.

During the presentation there was no mention of OS or any cool new MotoBlur features. So I was hoping that meant they just couldn't say anything until ICS is announced by Google tonight. But sadly then I saw Motorola's official press release... "Powered by Androidâ„¢ 2.3.5, Gingerbread". I'm sure it will eventually be upgraded to ICS in the future. But looks like it'll start out with Gingerbread. Heck, I probably wouldn't have even included the Movo/Verizon announcement in this thread if I realized it was just another Gingerbread phone. Was hoping because the announcement was today, the same day ICS is being announced, that Motorola might have had a surprise for us. But no surprise.

Ah I didn't pay attention close enough to catch that on the official press release. Regardless, I imagine since it is a Moto phone is will be one of the first to receive ICS. (Entirely my speculation).

Going back to the first thing Motorola announced. Motoactv Android MP3 player and fitness device for $250. One clarification. That heart rate monitor feature requires the $100 or $150 optional headsets. The obvious competition for this device is the iPod Nano. And at almost twice the price (Nano starts at $130) it has some convincing to do. Well two big features the Motoactv has over it's cheaper rival is GPS and Bluetooth. The Nano relies on a pedometer or other less accurate accessories, while the Motoactv has a built in GPS to track your location and distance. And Bluetooth support means you don't have to get tangled in headset wires. Both definitely make the Motoactv worth more. The Motoactv is also bulkier. 35 grams and 9.6mm thick. The Nano is sleeker at 21 grams and 8.8mm thick. Looks like a cool device, just wish they could have done a little better with the price. Just don't think I'd want to spend that much money for this type of thing.

I can't see the Motoactv attracting more than a very niche crowd tbh.

Web cast is over (kinda wish Samsung didn't use that bright white background, blinding. haha). Galaxy Nexus looked very awesome. But no micro SD is still slightly disappointing. Android 4.0 looked really good. They did a great job finally give the UI a consistent look everywhere. The UI overall is called Roboto. With what they call magazine style layouts (lots of tiles). Consistent swipe gestures (left and right swiping available in most apps for navigation). And I certainly felt some WebOS influences in the UI. They tried to demonstrate the Face Unlock facial recognition feature and that failed to recognize the owner. The issue might have been the make-up, bright lights, and shadows of the stage though.

Disappointed that Samsung didn't give a release date other than "November", no pricing information, no carriers mentioned (we are pretty sure at least Verizon).

It's been confirmed that the RAZR will be getting ICS early 2012. So far that means that the Galaxy Nexus will be the only ICS phone for the entire holiday season. Get ready to wait for an order.

The below article talks about which phones they believe will get ICS upgrade and which might. Nexus S will no doubt be the first to get the ICS upgrade. Razr is expected to be the first non-Nexus phone to get ICS. A lot of Gingerbread phones released in 2011 should probably get upgraded as well. My 2010 Galaxy S Vibrant will have to wait for CM9. http://www.androidcentral.com/will-my-phone-get-ice-cream-sandwich
