Firefox 7 Questions

First of all the search bar is driving me crazy. I'm pretty sure when I was using Firefox 4 the default action when making a search is to create a new tab with your results and yet now it replaces the current window unless I middle-click the search button. Is there a way to return it to the way it was before? Also, for some reason a website I used to use to watch TV shows and movies is creating new windows instead of new tabs when I click on the link to go watch the video. It didn't used to do this so I'm not sure what changed between FF4 and FF7 to make this happen. I read somewhere that if Javascript sets a specific window size in the link it will open a new window if it won't fit in your current one so I'm sure that is what is causing this but it didn't happen on my old computer on FF4. Is there some way to make it so Javascript won't open a new window or resize my current one? I'd also like to be able to enter a website into the address bar and just hit enter and have it open to a new tab. Is there a way to do that? I'm fairly disappointed with their lack of choices in tabbed browsing...

Tools -> Options -> Tabs tab Select what you want. "Open new windows in a new tab instead"

Come on now, if it were that simple would I have created this post? Of course I have that option selected, these issues are still happening in spite of it.

I just tested Firefox 4.0 and could not reproduce this behavior with address bar and search bar results opening in new tabs. Nor could I with IE 9.0 or Chrome 14. These default to the current tab, pretty standard behavior. And I couldn't find any setting an any of the browsers I tested to create this feature. Regarding Javascript opening new windows and resizing windows. In Options, Content, Javascript Advanced, you can prevent Javascript from resizing/moving windows. The Pop-up Blocker in Options, Content usually blocks new Windows, but not always. The cool thing about Firefox is there are a lot of add-ons, including many that change tab behavior. I suspect you might have had an add-on with Firefox 4 to create that behavior with address bar and search bar results opening new tabs. So I looked at the Tabs add-ons on Firefox's page and the very first thing I ran into was this add-on. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/?src =hp-dl-featured Tab Mix Plus seems to do exactly what you want. In it's options you can enable address and search bar result to open new tabs. And also includes a setting preventing Javascript from opening new Windows. and an epic ton of other tab controlling features. I'm guessing you might love this add-on.

Well hell! I thought it was default options that I had before, I completely forgot that I installed that add-on. Thanks for the help! One thing though, I actually did try unchecking that Javascript option you mentioned and it still opened into a new window. I'll get that add-on installed later today and test those links out to see if the add-on fixes it. I'm assuming that I should still uncheck the Javascript option for resizing/moving or else when the page opens in a new tab it'll resize my main window? I'll post back here this evening to let you know if it worked or not.

For some reason my FF7 turns into NetScape when playing music or watching videos. Time for a re-install I think.
