Reduced memory footprint and faster HTML5.

Anyone give it a try yet?

Running it now. Haven't run into any problems yet. It does seem faster.

Running it now. Don't notice a difference, other than fonts seemed to have changed. Smoother somehow, or something.

With 35 pages open, I was using 1GB of memory with 6.0.2. I applied the update, restarted. And now it's down to 360MB. So pretty nice reduction so far.

The reduced memory footprint will help a lot for me. Having 500 Mb to 900 Mb in Firefox with few tabs open wasn't rare for me.

And for the first time ever, I've seen FF use 2.5GB of memory while maxing out a core on an i7.

Not sure which add-on it is, but one of them is doing something that FF7 definitely does not like (or something in FF7 is broken and the add-on is exposing that). I was unable to reproduce this in safe mode.

I've been using the beta for a while and it runs much lighter than 6.

Keep a look at your plugins and addons after the update. The Installer deactivates some of them.

- Addon-fix: install some other addon, and the deactivated will be shown and usable
- Plugin-fix: just reactivate the disabled plugin

Welp I'm going back to 6.0.2. Something since the 7.0 update has been causing my Firefox to randomly just freeze up for 20 or 30 seconds at a time. It's only happened 3 or 4 times, but it's annoying me already.

Check the memory usage on it when its happening IMO. Thats what I was noticing when I would click "next" on Amazon.com and it loaded another grid / page of products (and I can reproduce that by getting to a grid page and clicking next about 10 times, and its downhill from there).

Fixes an issue with the upgrade hiding some add-ons. Hoping it helps with my freezing issue too.

I'm still playing around with Firefox. And it's taken a while because the issue is so random and infrequent. But I became suspicious that the freeze ups would occur when the browser was Syncing (integrated sync feature).

I uninstalled the browser, removed the old profile (and Mozilla directories). Reinstalled with a fresh profile. And enabled my Sync again. Now interestingly I don't think I'm freezing up anymore, but now I'm getting a sync error message once in a while (kinda random and infrequent like my freeze ups were).

So I did some searching on this. And it turns out there are some sync issues on going.

http://twitter.com/#!/mozservices
"We know there are still Sync nodes having issues. We are working diligently to correct. Sorry for the errors (if you're affected)."

And if you are having Sync issues with Firefox, they setup a website to help them debug the issue.
http://blog.mozilla.com/jv/2011/10/03/help-mozilla-services-operations-debug-whats-wrong-with-sync/

I just sent them my log file.

edit: nice timing, not 10 minutes after posting this, Firefox freezes up again. I jinxed it. I'm also starting to notice I usually have a Flash video playing when these issues happen. Hmm...

i am getting a similar freezing issue ever since upgrading to firefox 7. my problem is not related to sync (i don't use it) or flash (happens when theres no flash on the site). basically it freezes for like 20-30 seconds once every 5 mins or so. i need to find somewhere to download an old version of firefox...never had this problem in the past.

I'm getting the freezing issue as well. They started after I moved a couple months ago. I had been on DSL, and am now on cable. Don't know how that would affect it, but who knows. FF 6 did it and now 7 is doing it. I've noticed the CPU usage on the core that FF is running on jumps up to 70+% while it's frozen.

Yeah, I eventually ruled out Sync and Flash as well. Turned both off and still had problems.

I'm back to Firefox 6.0.2 with automatic update install turned off. Life is good again.

Still puzzled why it's happening or whats causing it. Until now, I thought it was just me.

My biggest problem with firefox in general is that when I shut the program down, it doesn't terminate correctly. When I attempt to open firefox later, nothing happens. I have to go into the Processes tab and end the firefox.exe . Then I can restart it. This issue seems far more prevalent with 7.0.

Got FF 7.0.1 on all of my 6 personal and 1 work computers and its working like a champ. A couple addons are still incompatible, but that will get resolved with time.

Right now, with 4 tabs that I use all the time open, FF uses about 190MB RAM, which is lower than before by about a factor of 2.
