Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

http://www.hardocp.com/news/2011/09/20/pc_prices_15_years_ago_today Best Buy ad from 15 years ago showing a few computer systems from HP, Packard Bell, Acer, and Apple. A 166MHz Pentium, 16MB RAM, 2GB hard drive, with 14 inch monitor would set you back $2,000. But the good news is AOL just went to a flat monthly rate, so no more huge hourly fees.

Wow, I remember those AOL bundles. And whoa I remember dealing with those old power PCs. They were powerless bricks even then, really funny to look back and see the 2399 pricetag.

Omg, that is literally the exact computer I bought my first year of college lol... well maybe the next incarnation of it since I bought it in 97 but it looks exactly like it with the same specs. Think it's sitting in closet at my moms house some where at the moment. Thing could play command and conquer like a boss.

What is funny is those old P166's are still out there doing work. We have three automated chop saws where I work that have P166's in them running DOS.

I can't upgrade the computer in the Shop because it's the only thing I have old enough to run the lathe software.
