Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

I am considering upgrading back to PC 5.1 surround sound speakers. What would be a good set that people would recommend for under $200.

I survived to the end and got nothing out of it, but hey.

I had a set of Logitech 5300 that I really liked but are unavailable now. I think the replacement set is the 5500. The one thing I had issue with was the buzz I had with the headset jack on the volume control. I seldom used headsets so it wasnt a big deal. My 5300's stopped working about two years after I bought them and decided that I didnt really need the 5.1 anymore so with my Bose credit I bought a set of their Series 5 2.1's from a local factory outlet store and am very satisfied. A bit more than the <$200 budget ($299) you have stated. Before anyone starts to discredit the Bose system....I bought them, you didnt, so dont start.

If there is a 5.1 version of the old Logitech THX certified speakers, I'd suggest those. God I love them.

Z-5500 is also EOL. Current top model is Z906 at $300. They don't really have anything in the $200 range unless you find some retailer still selling a Z-5500 (which I don't). Just a quick look at NewEgg, there seems to be an abysmal selection of 5.1 speakers. They are either really cheap or really expensive. Hmmm.

I been trying to find something for 6+ months and still come up short. Not impressed with anything. I have been thinking getting a cheap receiver and speakers instead of the box set thing, but I do not know... That would end up running me probably 400 bucks atleast.. For now I am using my ancient altec lansing quad speaker thing. Meanwhile it seems all the new speaker stuff dies in 6 months. I really do not want to connect to my TV/receiver because then its only 1080p and no super office chair to sit in, though it would sound awesome.

Cheap: Logitech x530 or x540. Expensive: Logitech 5500. Is it just for gaming or for more, Mith? PS: I'm using a set of x530 on my computer, and I'm UTTERLY satisfied with them, VERY good stuff for the price ($50 to $60 depending the shop, can't get better for the price). Check the web reviews if you don't believe me. But if you want the TOP NOTCH, get the 5500 ones of course, for more power (my lil 530 already make the house quake and my ears too, I don't need more).
