Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

I didn't see the video. But apparently CM has a video on YouTube that was trying to educate customers about power supplies. Problem is a SilverStone employee realized the information being given is inaccurate and he called out CM for using a power supply with a "500" table that was only 450 watts. http://www.hardocp.com/news/2011/07/12/psu_label_debate Sad to see they were uninformed about power supply label and sadder still that they were trying to teach their users with this. To add further insult to injury, the Cooler Master Xtreme Power Plus 500 model they used in the video as an example happens to be a typical over-labeling PSUs with clear tell-tale signs: To obtain safety certificates, the specification table and associate rating numbers on the power supply label must be accurate. The manufacturers are free to name the power supply any way they like however, so in this case, Cooler Master placed “500†next to the model name to suggest it as a 500W PSU (and sold as a 500W) as opposed to it being a 450W. It’s a tough business competing in lower wattage range (500W & below) as every dollar counts so there are other types of over-labeling practices too. This is pretty bad for honest manufacturers that do not over-label on wattage and still have to compete on price. And to see Cooler Master trying to educate people with the wrong information, I just couldn’t stand it anymore. Cooler Master has since removed the video. Oops. Also this isn't the first time CM has been busted for overrating power supplies. They do have some good PSU, unfortunately they also have some crappy overrated ones too, so it makes it hard to recommend them to anyone.
