I'll post some impressions coming from AT&T here soon. Saw the Nexus S 4g was getting its first big update this week and the porting credit ends next week so I took the plunge. Here is the ultimate hilarity: When I was going through Sprint's credit dept to verify my identity and get my credit ran, AT&T dropped my call. The woman called back and I informed her that is why I'm switching. lol...

I have Sprint and I do not like it (although it's my area). I figured living in the Northeast(Mass) part of the country I should have excellent coverage. I have such terrible reception/bars in my town.

I have figured this out from all the people that I talk to....
It doesnt matter who you have, they all suck. The funnier thing is that part of the problem is not their network, but the number of people in the area and the stupid mass produced phones.

Like Fuury I also live in the Northeast (Mass) and had Verizon for the longest time. Reception was very good, coverage was good except when I started going through the cranberry bogs and their service was fair to midland. Also, coverage inside my house really sukko'd.
I switched to AT&T a year ago because I wanted to try an iPhone plus my wife has AT&T through her work so the calling would be a bit cheaper between us. They compare pretty much apples to apples with Verizon. My wife complained about the coverage in the house so when we went to the local AT&T company store they ended up selling us a "Microcell". Come to find out, my wife's crackberry was 2G (brand new this year from her company, go figure) so we bought her an iPhone3G (on sale for $49).
Frnakly, I cannot tell any difference between Verizon and AT&T as far as connectivity is concerned here in New England.

I routinely have zero bars, that's not an issue to me. Constantly dropping calls is. As long as Sprint doesn't have me dropping or missing calls, I'm good. The signal status bar could be giving me a middle finger and I'd smile at it as long as it did its damn job.

95% (yea, I pulled that number outta my arse) of cell phone signals are from the same tower regardless of your carrier. If you have zero bars now (I'm sure you know that zero bars indicates little if any signal and that will cause dropped calls), I doubt changing carrier will help. At least you will have 30 days to decide.

It is always directly related to your geographical location. Verizon is unquestionably the leader where I live. Too bad Verizon is unquestionably the most expensive as well...

I'm in the Tampa Bay metro area. Believe me, I don't live in the stix. AT&T is just garbage here.

In my area the is a very noticeable tier of quality and service that everyone is aware of, when it comes to "the big three" Worst service, technical and customer-wise: AT&T (by a huge margin, too) Good service and adequate customer service: Sprint Great service, pretty good customer service, but expensive as fu*k: Verizon

I agree TOTALLY. I was trying to say that the best service is completely dependent on where you live (geographical location). Some places...verizon is the best (like where I live)...some places...verizon is horrible and att or sprint will be way better. There is no service that is the best everywhere... And I agree with the above poster as well. Verizon has great cs when I call...making account changes and overnighting my purchases, etc. But you sure do pay for it.

A lot has to do with tower congestion too. I might be piggy backing onto the same tower as AT&T but if the frequency bands are different, my signal is going to be different. I got my Nexus S today and so far, so good. It was a joke to root and I've already got a custom kernel on it that out performs any of the new Dual Core offerings except for MAYBE the Exynos in Galaxy S2. Fantastic phone.

Come up to Maine and it is a different story. I have Verizon and I have a good friend with AT&T and where i have 3G coverage she barely has anything at all... heh.

I have 1-2 bars with sprint and I haven't dropped anything yet. This is versus the usual 0-1 with AT&T and the daily dropped call fun. The only down side so far, that I can see, is that Sprint's 3G speed is unquestionably slower than AT&T. I'm getting around 6-700 kbsec versus the 1300 I was getting with AT&T.

Well here's another update. I'm still getting low signal where I am and I spoke to someone at sprint about it. I didn't even have to ask; they are sending me a free Airave. I haven't had any issues with cell quality and I more wanted to see how their customer support would handle the problem. Fifteen minutes on the phone with Sprint and I received better service from them than I have in 4 years with AT&T.
