Looks like I'm gonna miss catching up to BS tonight Doom, neighbor's gateway can't get a DHCP response from his ISP. Since I've been using his free internet for months I think it would look bad if I call his ISP and try to get them to fix it.
Anyone know a way to connect using a T-Mobile cell phone as a connection? Works fine right up until it has to connect to a server, unfortunately T-Mobile uses UDP port 9000 for SMS/MMS messages, so it won't let me send traffic on that. Simply changing the port in the ini file doesn't work either, it still uses port 9000 post login to check for client updates =\

Have you tried using duel client to config. your ports?
If you haven't - Duel client has an option to turn off auto detect Port. A box then appears where you can type in a port number try anything from 9001 to 9010.
I'm not at home right now or I would tell you exactly where these options are.

Same behavior as if I manually do it in the ini. Stops at updating bar. IIRC any port selection done only has an impact on actually connecting to the world and/or login server, but not client updating - which is where I get stuck when connecting via my mobile data service. When I use any open APs I have no problem logging in at all, but as I said above my neighbor's ISP is currently hosed

It might not be ports then. Or related to port selection. Because you have clearly set your ports correctly yet the problem is still there. Furthermore whenever I have set ports incorrectly I do not get trouble until I first hit portal space.
Maybe bake your neighbour a pie or something... It is amazing how many people do not psw protect their wireless internet. When I go for runs with my ipod there is always 3+ wireless connections unprotected in the remote area.

I've diagnosed what the problem is with my own connection, and it doesn't appear to be something I can work around short of going with another GSM provider (ugh, AT&T) and hoping they don't use the same port for their SMS/MMS messaging. My neighbor's wireless is still unsecured, I routinely reboot his router because his connection only stays up for 48 hours at a time, the problem now is his ISP, he hasn't been receiving a DHCP lease for about a week now, so he gets no IP from his ISP. Obviously since nobody knows I use the connection, and I don't know his account info, I won't be calling the ISP to troubleshoot. Hell I don't even know which neighbor it is - I just call him Linksys.

You lasted quite a long time in this game. I'll have you know that even though I left AC years ago, I'd put up all the people I met on Thistledown against anyone else... even said server villains. I miss a game where playing is actually dangerous. New games suck.
