I think it keeps the old settings if you install it into the same directory, but make a backup of the folder to be sure.

I installed it into the old programs directory.
Alinco 3 makes a new settings directory in documents and settings (Alinco).
It didn't pick up settings from the old directory there (alinco)
It generates an error if I copy the old settings into the new directory.

The good thing about Alinco is that it does not take long to add in items.
