Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

Supposed to compete with Flickr and doing a good job so far. Rather than list out every detail I'll let TH do it for me (since he led me to it in the first place >_<) http://thomashawk.com/ and my 500px kewk.500px.com

Why is this better? That's the important thing here :>
I see flicr as a social hub, more than a imagehost. And I think new, competing sites will have a tough time in getting the same user-base as flicr.
If that's not the point, why not just host pics yourself?

A few things I like more about this than flickr: Custom CSS themes (not sure if you can style them yourself tho but the themes they have are pretty rad. Even free ones). Like / Dislike options to get photos rated rather than "just" a comment of how good or bad it is. Because of the like / dislike it is easier to view quality photos. Domain forwarding so if you choose you could have your personal domain go to your 500px. Can blog on your 500px account (tho I would likely just use my own site for that). So far the only thing I don't like is that it lacks groups even tho groups really lose value after awhile on flicr. Unless they are strictly moderated at least. About hosting pics myself... well yeah but this is an extension to that for greater exposure. Or could even be used as a tool to what you host on yours site. Like you can dump everything on 500px and the top rated photos you would host on your actual site. It'll take a few months of free time on 500px before I am willing to make a sound descision to leave flickr or not. Well at least not pay for another year of flickr in favor of 500px.

To me Flickr is more for the communities than the hosting. The strobist group and the Starting a Wedding Photo Business groups are the best I have ever seen.
